Eric, you are talking v6 flares, not v8 ones. The v8 a6 cars came with 255-40-17s on 8" wide wheels. These are usually 25.4" tall wheels...
Yes, true, but the wheel well isn't that much larger on the V8 cars. Pretty much any fender will require work to use it's flare for various reasons. Even flares from a B4 will require a decent amount of work to fit on a B3. I'd do steel, since you'd already have to cut part of the factory "flare" off the car to make room for wider tires anyway...



I agree that 255's would be a huge improvement, and that is likely where I will end up at first, but if I am going to go through the pain of flaring the rear, I want to be able to fit something even wider. I have moved on from street tires and have run R compounds at the last three events
I still have a ways to go as a driver, but the feedback from more than a few instructors who have been in the car is it really needs wider tires, and I can't agree more.
