Julian's '91 200 20vt
Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Hey now we are onto something. I'm thinking I may have seen that the turbo housing could have its bolt pattern slightly modified to get the right spacing to fit a t3. Fortunately these ebay manifolds don't come with the locating ring so it makes it more feasible. I was thinking of getting the right HF welder if needed and doing some stuff that will pop up along the path to greatness, including a manifold support attached to the head. Except that means I'll have to dig up my welding notebook and I was never very good at it lol. I'll drop you a line Dave

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
I'd do a flange adaptor before trusting cast welds. I've rewelded standard 20vt manifold cracks myself and had two done by others and all three cracked with minimal miles. Mine did crack first haha
The way I'd do it if there's room on the manifold (and I'm not sure there is without having one in hand): Cut 1x T3 and 1x KKK flange out of .5" mild steel. Drill bolt pattern in KKK flange and rill out factory exhaust manifold to M8 or M10 clearance (I forget which those are), cut flats into the back of the manifold's turbo flange area for the nuts to seat and then put studs in the KKK flange and bolt it to the OEM manifold with four nuts on the back of the manifold's turbo flange.
Then just drill/tap the T3 flange and weld it straight to the KKK flange and have it planed or milled. That would still leave you with two gaskets but would give maximum clearance and minimum see-ability as it would be as thin as possible. You might even be able to get away with .375" mild but I'd probably stick with .5" if you have room just because you get more threads and I don't think there's a downside besides .25" less clearance. My 2c!

I've just learned to spend money once is all. I don't want to seem condescending or like a know it all because I'm not, everyone can do whatever they want!
I just would have waited and saved (I don't recommend using credit) to buy the quality parts to do things once. Hopefully once anyway, you can ALWAYS blow things up

I have 2 zero interest credit lines and I'm a reckless spender. I do alright
I did secure funding for the WG tho. I didn't realize people had problems with cheaper WG's until DE80Q mentioned it. I'm impatient as well. Thanks for the advice as its always appreciated

I agree on the drain line but I used to run a dash 4 line with a - 3 reducer, then back to a - 4 to 1/8 npt adapter or whatever it is that turbo had on feed side. That worked too.

ive heard lots from my friend Dave (hi Dave
) about the merits of owning a turbonetics 38 mm wastegate. I see there are fake Tials and obviously the real ones would have to be out there too. So what do yous think of a friendly competition of comparison between Tial and Turbonetics WG's? Thought? Anecdotes? Thanks all
REALLLLLY don't want to spend overy $200 on one. Used is likely a preference so as to obtain a higher quality piece on the cheap-ish-er. Have my eye on a used turbonetics one right now but I dont want to find out it needs a diaphragm or more in the end

There is no better wastegate than Tial. I'm convinced of that. Plus, it's made in USA.
I've scored good 38mm tials for around $120.

It looks like Aktapod and myself may be the only vocal ones not getting email notifications.
I like the Tial's cosmetic touches and design but I bet I'd manage to overpay for a fake and get taken if it were listed used somewhere. I just payed for the used turbonetics evolution. Now I can keep the small "T" decals I had made on the side rear windows after the turbo swap
I just wish this manifold were here already. Coming from freaking Brazil tho! I think he's a member on here

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
I did end up using a restrictor on my HX35 with good results, but take that as you will. I'm only running a -10AN drain so I was a little worried about the drain flow. The restrictor was my way of making sure that oil pressure buildup was pre-turbo.
Here's the setup I used for the drain.

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Very nice. Part links will help tremendously. I'm not at all familiar with AN stuff yet.
Found out, pretty sure, that the turbo needs rebuilt. At least I think it would be wise. Can hear a bearing "jiggle" every once in a while hand spinning the turbo. I have oil in it also at this point. I hear that minimal play disappears after introducing oil to the cartridge. The nicest rebuild kit I've found is $55 shipped. Gonna need a special socket for the axle nut and a non click in# torque wrench now.
Met police this morning to remove an overdose case from a home nearby. You've never seen drugs tear a family apart until you've worked in the funeral business

Have we sacrificed the post notification option here??
I naturally had some questions for 034 about the log manifold:
Will I need a t3 flange "spacer" to run a 12 cm HX35 on the 7at manifold with 38 mm WG flange? I'm concerned about the housings clearing the log manifold. Also a bit concerned about the DP and Turbonetics evolution wastegate routing. I bought the manifold second hand unused so it's still in shipment.
Jeremy replied:
Julian,
I'm not fully sure, I don't mess with those HX35 or any holeset for that matter. So you are in uncharted waters my friend.
Good luck!
----
I'll get this working. A screamer pipe should be easiest. Not sure if it will sound good tho :( I think I'll have the exhaust shop cut up the stock DP so I can use it to transition into the stock dual cats below. That should help with their labor costs and design issues
