Im working on it. Drives pretty well and handles pretty nicely. It will be better when I upgrade the rear sway bar. As for the sound, its pretty mean sounding when I get on it, but because I have both a resonator, and a muffler(stebro on both) its actually on the quiet side. You can just hear it running at idle, but has a nice deep tone. I will try to get some video up ASAP. Kind of hard when no one is willing to ride with me40v4kq wrote:It looks very functional. After I get my fuel line fixed I will have my wife take one. I have one from when I first brought it home, but she is talking all through it.
Fittings should be here tomorrow. Really sucks I had to stop driving her. Was just getting the hang of the stage 3 clutch, and extremely touch throttle.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) AN fitting question.
So I recieved 2 90 degree fittings in the mail, and now I am questioning the if they are the real thing. I picked up what is supposed to be Russell fittings. The thing making me question them is the "R" on the fitting. It is not what I am used to seeing. Normally they fitting come in a plastic bubble pack, and the "R" in stamped into the fitting like this

I recieved them in a sealed plactic bag, and the "R" looks to be engraved onto the red hose end
Maybe I just havent been around these fittings long enough, but im just not sure if should trust these fittings. Yes they were purchased on ebay. The seller had a very high rating, and almost no negative feedback, so I thought I would be safe.
Can anyone confirm that this looks correct?

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) AN fitting question.
Well, I just got off the phone with Edelbrock. I spoke with one of the "tech" guys and another that actually used to run the machines making these fittings. ALL russell fittings are roll stamped before machining. I sent them the pic of the fitting I recieved, and the guy said he has never seen anything like it!
So I recieved fake russell fittings. I have opened a case on ebay, and am awaiting a responce from the seller. I REALLY dont want to burn this car to the ground due to another junk fitting.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
So here is an update. The russell fittings turned out to be real. They are now out sourcing to china, and this is how they are marked over there.
Looks like its time to start putting together another kit of all Earls parts with some PTFE hose. Yeah, more funds I need to put together...
So I put together the new fuel line with the 120 and 90 fittings. I think I should have gone with a 150 fitting, but it will work for now. I was able to prime the fuel system a few times, and no leaks. I wasnt able to start the car because the battery went dead. Go figure right. The battery is only about a year old and doesnt seem to hold a charge. I took it back and they said it was too low on charge to check. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to have it checked again after they charge it. What a PITA! Im kind of hoping it turns out to be bad though. It never seemed right. I would charge it, and it would die not too long after. At least then I will have a new battery and shouldnt have to worry about it for a while.

Todays update,
The new fuel line seems to be holding. The problem is that apparently that line was leaking the whole time, and now my AFR are quite rich again... Go figure. With still nothing controling the WG, I figure I will just let her sit until the pieces arrive, then start tuning. Looks like all of my values are going to need to be leaned out some. Havent even hit wide open throttle yet, and I was seeing my gauge maxed out rich again. Lots of fun to come.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
So I decided to tackle a small project that I need to get done before I start holding boost pressures over 10psi. I removed the throttle body side of the intercooler piping. Is it a bad thing it only took about 20 min to get it all out of the car?

Then using the little crimp too you can see in the lower left of the pic above, proceded to make a "bead" on the ends of all the piping. Should hold pretty well now

Not as smooth as an actual bead roller, but should be good enough to keep the couplers from blowing off any more.

Nice bead! Cheap and works ftw
Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
Cheap was the word. I paid $7 dollars for the tool ad HF, and spent about 1/2hr modding it at work one night. So all in all, I think I might have gotten paid to make this...

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
Well, now that my face doesnt feel like its swollen from haveing 2 teeth pulled, I will be working on this today. I will be putting in the WG referance so that I can actually not have to worry about hitting the boost cut. I will also be trying to figure out what is going on with the ISV. I cant seem to get it to work for some reason. I will try switching the leads back, as I finaly found the +/- marks, and of course, I have them backwards. This just might have somthing to do with it.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
So I got the WG referance line hooked up. With the backyard spring that is in my WG, I am holding strong at about 13psi. The damn thing pulls like a train, and is running pig rich again. So back to the tunning. Looks like most of my VE table will need to be messed with. The tuning that Mark did worked great with the WG unhooked, and limited throttle. Now I need to make the rest of it work as well.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Back to work
No real update. I havent had much time to work on this. Hell, I spent father's day at my daughter's little dance recital.
I did order all the parts I need to build my intake for the turbo though. That includes the breather hoseing too. Will be nice to not have to worry about somthing trying to jump into my turbo, and not have that smell from the crank breather puffing into the engine bay. Im still trying to figure out how to get the ISV to work. It just seems to open the whole way and stay there. Not sure what I am doing wrong there.
Next weekend I have a friend coming down to give me a hand with cleaning up the wiring. I haev said it before, and I will way it again. Wiring is not my stonge suit, so I accept help with it any time it is offered. Not to mention I think there might be a small B3 gthering in my apartment parking lot. There will be 3 there that I know of.

I had a couple deliveries show up yesterday, I think I have enought to make up the intake for this now...

I may have gone a little overboard on the piping length, but I got 36" of 2.25" 16ga raw finish tubing, for less then most places wanted for 18" of the polished stuff...

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) might not be good...
Well, I re-torqued my head studs this morning. They weren't too bad, but did need it. On the way home from work I had some PITA in a 3rd gen eclipse GT decided she wanted to have a go. With out any issue, I took it out, so car is running great.
When I got home, there seemed to be some steam coming out from under the hood. It was raining, so thought that might be what is was. I popped the hood, to see coolant sprayed around. It appears to be coming out of the over flow tank. Now the car didn't over heat, and the tank it new, but a cheapy. I'm going to inspect the tank and cap to see if there is anything noticeably wrong, and try replacing the the cap with one I have here. If that's not the problem, I guess its time for a leak down test...
