Not done with either...(parts hording or the block build party)....

Lunch will consist of more fund distribution and a couple layers of enamel before the block gets assembled later tonight...

Just shot the 1st layer of paint.... I'm not 100% on the color after it's been sprayed on the block.... It's more bronze than dark metallic gray...

Do my eye's deceive me?

I'll shoot 2-3 more coats and save the rest for perhaps some other smaller under-hood items...

Why the Ferrea valves? Most people opt for Supertech, I'm curious as to your purpose.

My 6 Years in Audi's I haven't really heard of many complain of Supertech but in other applications the failure rate is far more than Ferrea. Though any valve can fail (think tight valve lash ect...), I've heard way more SuperTech stuff break at the retainer meeting point.
The Ferrea 5000 is equivalent to the ST stuff in quality in my opinion and lucky for us they only carry Audi parts in Series 6000 & above...
The gravy on top is that they can be had for less money too...

And now that I think of it I can possibly name 2-3 +600hp Audi users off hand that prefer Ferrea over ST eyes shut any day too, but it's probably a mute point to name them...

The down side to going full Ferrea is ultimately the cost as there springs and retainers are a bit more than ST and need to be used in conjunction with each other.

In the end, I'm just going with what I'm comfortable with...

Yeah it does, thanks. My experience is more from the 1.8t side of things where the two brands are worlds apart in terms of quality, and yet Ferrea don't seem to be so popular with those of us in the 20vt i5 world.

Hit up DomP90 in the projects section... I believe he just ordered a full Ferrea valvetrain like 2 weeks ago... Coincidentally he's also building a 58mm PTE motor...

I prefer Ferrea as well and will be using their parts I think. I like that they are in FL and they have a very good rep with lots of engine builders.

A quick chat with one of my shops revealed that the general consensus is that while the inconel Supertech valves are technically stronger in theory they have a tendency to snap rather than slightly bend as the "special alloy" Ferrea 6000's have been normally found once inspected. In life this usually equals a saved engine.

How do the hollow and titanium versions hold up? I don't know as they only make them for domestic vehicles....

I went with Ferrea for the same reasons. After doing some reading, saw decent amount of threads talking about Supertech failures so I said screw it and bit the bullet for everything from Ferrea. Just going off of Intergrated Engineerings website the Ferrea Spring/retainer setup is more than double the Supertech stuff, but the valves are a bit cheaper. To me peace of mind was worth the $400ish more.

Thinking of running the new line of Walbro (Part #F90000267) as I'm running a stock pump at above rs2 levels...

Seems like there is a packaging constraint I may encounter...

The stock pump is about 43mm, so the top part of this pump should slide right in. The base, however, is where I can't remember if there was enough room down there from when I did an 044 in my previous car.

Tough crowd around the Walbro topic I guess...

Anyhow, some assembly got done today on the block... I wanna emphasize on "some" because it would've been done had the oil squirters had been picked up with the block... I had sort of rushed in and out when I picked it up...
