ok, i don't want to "lay frame" as the truckin' boys say, but comon' an inch is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. i got enough else on my plate without thinking about dessert guys... if' i'm lucky, i'll be able to get an inch of rearward movement, which i think would provide an even nicer feeling 8)

so, at this point i'm gonna probably have to build a new front subframe, lower control arms, and i've got some nifty idears for upper control arms and coilover shocks
so you wouldn't by chance have some used delrin CA bushings for sale then, wouldja huh wouldja? :bump:
juuust curious as i need another set for the rear of my 4000
And nice work, that's going to look amazing! look forward to seeing how it progresses

They're no longer sold. Have been replaced w/ pro-mounts, which are a pretty slick setup. You'll need to email Mance (VAP on AW) about them, or search the 80/90 forum on AW... lots 'o info on 'em there.

thegetawaycar- I pm'd you about the 2 mounts i have left.
Martin- adapters are a no go. minimal thickness i can find is 15mm, and that'll only allow me to run 7.5" front rims... not the 10" er's that i want
i'll have some cool suspension stuff to show you guys here in a bit. i don't gots CAD, but i do gots poster board

Looks to me like he's still selling them. As much as I like Mance, 034 sells mounts for cheaper that have the tops filled in with rubber rather than the plastic inserts Mance sells. I personally am using mance mounts on my 4kq and am happy, but if I had known, I'd probably have purchased 034's density line strut mounts.

ok, wiener talk time is over. suspension time...
i made some templates of the approximate dimensions of the spindle, hub, original lower control arm length and their proper mounting places. what i first wanted to establish is what would be the effect of an upper control arm attached at the height of the strut tube where it bolts to the spindle, and going to the frame rail. at the given ride height i wish to roll at, it puts the upper control arm at a very steep angle, and only about 6" max length.
first thing is did was aquire some info and drawing materials...

here's with everything approximately where it would be as i first envisioned on the car. you can see the hub silhouette in there as well, but it's a separate piece stuck on.

the upper control arm is a total midget and it causes a HUGE camber gain in a 2" stroke( i gotta get me a protractor or something to figure out just how much). so i made a 2" longer upper control arm that would attach on top of the frame rail and that helped out some.
i also made a template of the wheel with the offset that i plan to use so that i don't get to far off track in my designs here in regards to scrub radius and stuff (still working on grasping all the concepts and how they all play a roll)
here's with the lower control arm in the stock mounting position..

and compressed 2"

this is with the lower control arm mounted 2" higher than stock (custom subframe obviously)

and compressed 2"

the camber curve is such that with my tires tucked just inside the fender lips... with 2inches of compression, the top will travel inward just over 1", and that will easily clear the shape of the fender lip. the plan is for maybe 5" of total suspension travel, 2.5" upward, and the same downward.
base ride height is 3.5" lower than stock.
