Re: Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
^thanks!
HELP!!! Trying to remove the old pilot bearing and long story short, all that remains is the outer casing and I can't get it to budge and can't figure out how to get a bite on it to get it out... it also seems to be made of super hard metal which destroys drill bits and cold chisels.
any btdt?? I'm thinking I'll bring the motor to the machine shop around here and see what they can do... completely stumped here

I'd just carefully cut it the same you do when a wheel bearing race doesn't want to go with the bearing. Maybe just a hacksaw blade?

Re: Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
I had to beat the crap out of the one on my V8. It was part of the root cause of the clutch failure, so it started out mangled. I beat the casing and pounded it into the hole until it was almost flat against the back of the hole, then I was able to twist it a little bit and pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
If you can get a small hole drilled into the back wall of it, you can try threading a machine screw into it an pull it then.

Re: Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
I recall having to use a die-grinder with a round sanding drum. It took a while but got the job done without damaging the crank.
Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
I've tried bashing and broke 3 cold chisels... Tried a die grinder and the casing didn't budge, just wrecked the bit... Tried drills and dulled many bits, tried the soap/grease method and nothing. What the hell is this material? It seems harder than everything metal I try to destroy it with

Re: Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
Yup, huge PITA. When I removed the casing from the MC motor you couldnt even tell the casing was there! I used a dremel and a carbide bit (dont quote me on that, it was strong though), and after some time I was able to separate the bearing from the wall of the crank, but it came out in pieces

If you have a MIG, you could weld a bolt on and then slide hammer it out. Or even a nut that fits inside and tack it around the edges. Had to do that with a v6 torque convertor bushings
Casey's 200 20v: oh EFF... HELP!!
Well after much carbide bit usage and flat head screw driver chiseling....
And then...
Intermission for lunch
Ok and then..
So much bay.. So little motor?
Better put the goodies on for flare
Hank,
It doesn't quite fit under the hood... And radiator clearance is gonna be an issue
And then to end the night... Beers, BBQ and:

Casey, haven't seen this since I sold you those H&R's and the totally worthless Bilstein's that were attached to it. I think your cousin Jeremy hooked us up on that trade. But anyway, looks great and it sit really nice on those springs

Oh yea! Thanks for that! Those were actually for the V8 I used to have, but sold back to the previous owner last fall. The V8 sits REALLY nicely on those springs... See the results here: http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php? ... 6&start=50 Page 3 toward the bottom
Thanks for the kind words! It has been and continues to be a long wait getting this car together but very worth it

Re: Casey's 200 20v: Motor is in!
Wow, that does sit amazingly nice on those spring... wish i almost had them back haha... i'm stuck with an A6 suspension now and its monster trucking.
Casey's 200 20v: Motor is in!
set the timing today
Then put the ps pump and rad in to see how the intake interfered
Here's how far from flush with the head the intake is
Clears the ps pump just fine though. Radiator core would have to be shortened 3-4".
But the hood..
Some more pics Hank with the manifold removed - there's not much room to play with
No more AC. Why? Because race car.
