Yes, come on by!

Today's lesson is: If it looks like it might get to hot, it is getting to hot.

Just finished replacing a turbo coolant line.

Just killed 016#3 in a second gear drift around the on ramp with the diff locked. Bummer, I was having so much fun!

It failed in pretty spectacular fashion, second gear is completely gone, put it in gear and the engine just revs, lol. All other gears still work for now so I could drive it home albeit a bit noisy...

We are having a bunch of people over tomorrow night and I have promised some joy rides. I will probably still do it and just make sure there is a tow car ready

LOL. I would really be curious if a turbo 016 would yield any different results.

i think the lesson is more like; dont make crazy massive amounts of power, or your 016 will explode. :-D

No lessons today, this is how all three transmissions have died, it is only a matter of time.

Hank, my ass could tell you the exact amount of power it takes to break it. I have been babying it for the last ~2.5 years at only 25 psi or so and it has been fine. It seems 28-29 psi is death to 016. Same exact boost as last time.

The axles are next, it is hard to break them when the wheels are spinning from open diffs!

Jim, is it time for an 01E yet or are you gonna keep blowing up 016's?

I know a place where there's a 016 you could have cheap..... a few miles north of you

O1E 5 speed is sitting outside. Now I just need a clutch, FW, shifter, S2 hubs, axles, brakes. wheels, and maybe some tires.

Jimbob spent most of the weekend in the garage. It turns out the 016 linkage was really easy to use. I had to tweak it a few times in the vice, but it all works with my custom 016 style shifter.

Complete gallery here

http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/gallery ... emId=86020

Here is a pic of the 016 on top and the 01E on the bottom. Notice the front linkage is almost the same length. The 01E linkage is a short shift setup I borrowed from Apikol for test fitting.

Image

Fits perfectly

Image

Here is the almost final version, I am going to replace the small ball joints with quality heim joints.

Image

I welded a little wedge in the shifter arm so it fits nice and tight

Image

This pic shows why the urs4 01E linkage will not work on the small cars. the pivot is on the wrong side and hits the tunnel.

Image

I also ordered a few other necessities from 034.

So did you find a 6-speed, or are you still going with the 5 (thought I saw the 5 speed mentioned earlier?)?

I like it! So you made the bracket to put the side linkage back on the other side of the 01e like the 016 had. It won't be to long before we get to see if you can break an 01e.

You always had 411 gears so that won't change right? Is the Urs4 gearing taller?

You can also mod the UrS shift linkage to mimic the 016 like Zlobo did.

Image

This way you get to keep the matching selector lever.

Hope this helps.

That works too, thanks for the pic. My issue was just the lack of spare parts, and the 016 was here and free,
