new firesuit ruling for Ethanol use

Post by speeding-g60 »

so it has been brought to my attention that starting earlier than 2011 season they made new ruling in NHRA involving the use of E-85 or Ethanol for fuel. So its seems NHRA is now supposed to recognize E-85 as the same as alcohol. as Methanol is alcohol and burns with no visible flame, so they think Ethanol does the same, which it does not.

prior to this, i only was required to have an SFI 3.2A/5 three layer suit. and mine is one season old now, 2012. now it seems i need to have an SFI 3.2A/15 five layer suit~! and i was JUST RECENTLY shopping for a different jacket as i feel mine is too heavy/stuffy. FML.

Are they actually enforcing this at tech is the question. 5 layer suits are pricey, the very cheapest i have found is $880 and the coat will be a stretch to see if it fits. the next was a Sparco "Sport-light" SFI-15 at $1000. for pants and a jacket. and that is cheap they go up to >$2k!!!

9.99 and faster, any vehicle, supercharged or turbocharged running alcohol:

Suit meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/15, gloves and boots meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5 mandatory.

If SFI Spec 3.3 neck collar is required and driver opts to use head and neck restraint system instead, then SFI Spec 3.3 head sock or SFI Spec 3.3 skirted helmet mandatory.

Any kind of appeal process you can put forward the science of the matter and have the new clause amended?

Or one of those, "if you want to play in our sandbox..." kind of things?

and after i spend $1007 on a new Sparco suit, i get confirmation that it does not apply.

BUT, i run E-98 so now i have to look into that as well.

i have 30 days to return this suit for 15% restock fee. covers the CC fees to them both times and the shipping, etc. FML. oh well, $150 is better than out a grand for something that isnt required for me after all, i guess.
