PTFE seals

Post by koabi »

Hi guys,

I'm new to the i5 world, and need to do a timing belt on the 3B engine (among a bunch of other things). My ALH TDI got PTFE cam and crank seals which seem to be superior to the spring type; are the same types of seals available to the 3B? Looking up part numbers the answer appears to be no, but with so much cross compatibility I find that hard to believe.

thanks for any insight,

Yes you can use the PTFE cam seal from a 1.8t etc. it is the same size BTDT. Same thing with the crank seal I do believe.

Just be sure to observe the proper install instructions of not running the engine right away in order for the new seal to conform to the cam/crank. Proper install tools help too.

For reference:

CAM SEAL 47x10x32 068103085E spring / 038103085C PTFE
REAR CRANK SEAL 85x105x12 068198171/068103171F spring F =flange? / PTFE currently unknown
FRONT CRANK SEAL 35x48x10 054115147B spring / 038103085E PTFE

I'll try to find rear main seal with PTFE and update. I'd guess these would be fine for all 2.2 5cyl but I was only looking at the 3B in particular.
