Preston's 20vt 90q Track Toy
So the car started as a 20v DD during college. Although after a few rides in Jim Green's car I couldn't leave the car with its 20v na power. So in went a 20vt, IIb for fuel and ignition and a fun daily driver. Unfortunately one of my blue push lock aeroquip hoses decided it didnt want to stay on its barbed fitting anymore and poured fuel all over the downpipe resulting in a nice engine bay fire.
So what do you do when the engine bay catches fire? Remove everything from the car and make it faster, duh! Should have tubular control arms, motorsports mounts and race spec kw suspension from Javad in the car by summer. Then on to the cage and 20vt build. Thinking something likes Christian's coupe should do the trick.
Rear suspsension and subeframe is out. Most of the interior is stripped. Need to pull all of the wiring. I'll just be wiring back in the necessities for a track and sometimes street car.
A few pictures of the progress...
Lots of unnecessary sheet metal out of the way. Man its nice to climb around in the car now.
The old battery box riveted in and sealed with caulk. Need to do lots of cleaning and plan to weld the box in this time.
Thats a lot of wires! Good thing I can just remove them all. Where are my clippers!

A few updates. Removed some more parts on the car and started gathering some new ones. Stopped by a local audi nuts place and picked up a new front subframe and an 01a trans. My trans had some pretty bad syncros in it. As I took everything apart the subframe was missing one of its bolts and was bent! New one seems to line up nicely.
The other car in the garage and my competition
No more wires, woohoo!
You can where the fire took off the paint on the passenger side.
The nice new shiny subframe.

Thats a z06, its my roommates who never drives it. Currently it has no insurance and a flat tire. I think I should air the tire up and go for a spin. I don't think she would ever notice :-D
Yah, Todd who sold me the tranny and subframe is putting together some widebody kits for CQ's and B3's. I got to see one of his workshops last night and some of this work. Pretty cool, looking forward to seeing more in the future.

That's too bad. It would have been nice if she was a great driver, and looked like this:pro_mtn_biker wrote:Shes an engineer that works on nav systems for cars. Sounds cool right! Shes actually really annoying, can't drive the z06 worth a damn and never drives the car...

So got the rear subframe all put together today. Solid AL bushings from 034. 034 motorsports side diff mounts and delrin rear diff mount. Got the subframe cleaned up and painted as well. Went back in nice and smoothly. Should be much more tight responsive than before! The diff looks really dirty after I cleaned everything else up. The plan is to put in a clutch pack style diff like what Christian is running so I didn't bother cleaning the diff up.
