hehehe, ok, gig's up

i took that pic when i parted out the old 85 4kq a couple months ago

the engine did get pulled last night along with the tranny and driveshaft and harness/ecu. the front struts(going to a friend) got swapped for stock spares along with the front subframe(going on the zermatt car).
both tranny mounts were broken and gave me a free engine/tranny setback package

the driveshaft was all bound up and it actually broke the CV ball retaining ring on the front CV as half the ring is still stuck in the grease in the trans.
now i'll just be working on cleaning and prepping for work in the near future. the 20vt conversion on the zermatt car is first and foremost now since this car has been put on toy status.

Doug. I'm not sure if I understand the question. I have Koni External adjustables on the rear of my CQ along with 2B coilovers. Using the original CQ strut housing. Yes you can use Koni Yellow Sport Adjustables.
Just make sure you have them adjusted the way you want them before you put the carpet back in if you want to keep the factory look. Alternatively you can cut out a bit of the plastic in the hatch and adjust them as much as you like.

so they just drop in the cq tubes with none of the grinding or shimming D3R3K had to do on the 4k?
guess it's ok to hijack a thread if the car is dead/parted out

ugh... check out what i did to the brake booster arm in the accident....

it's been about a year ago now since the accident, but look for some updates soon. i had mega cool plans for it... but i'm gonna get more realistic and build it fun again. it sitting with the nose in the air isn't fun... at all... and i miss this car :(

well, it's about time for an update dontcha say?

last time i was here in CA i obtained a black interior carpet, dash, etc to convert over from the brown. the gray seats are temporary until i find some black race seats for it and then i'll probably just re-upholster the rear seat and door cards to match at that time.
startin' off with the old brown

a ton of that rubber backing from the carpet

and into the black...

i think i'll clean the doors, they are way dirty :(

the other bit of news, is that there's once again an engine in it!

saturday i took some time to work on sliding my extra 3.6 in

cut the fins off

and we have a new habitat for a homeless engine

i was missing one transmission mount which i procured yesterday at the wrecking yard and now i can work on getting the engine situated and some brackets fabbed up to get it sitting properly and then i can work on the wiring and other bits and pieces. for now i'm just going to run the stock engine management, mount the brake mastercylinder to the firewall and redrill the pivot hole on the brake pedal up a little bit to improve the pedal to leg power ratio.
i've got a few things brewing for another 5lug swap, the suspension will be going back to the ground control and koni's, a custom big brake kit i'm working on, 5ktq trans, URQ rear diff, and some 8" rims with 235's. i also got one of my spare PT ecu's chipped with the ABT chip from Scott phillips. looking forward to a little fun with this thing again.
i would like to have this car back on the road by the coming summer so that most of my fleet runs again. i went about a year with nothing fun to drive since the accident and i realized it's more fun to drive and mod a little bit, than to not drive and mod all the time

hopefully i'll have some more updates this week on this car.
cheers all and here's to hopefully a great, fun 2k8! thumbsup!

What was wrong with the brow carpet, other than color? I am looking for at least a mint rear section in brown.

nothing was wrong with the brown other than the fact that it was brown

it's going into my friends URQ though. sorry Martin :(

D3R3K - with 4 "enthusiast" cars you should keep 2 of them ready for a fun blast down the road at all times... the fast drives remind us why we spend so much time working on these old cars...
get this one road ready so you can add the two turbo's to that big 'ol A6 this summer!

no kidding doug. i've had family over from europe this summer and nothing to give them a fun ride in.
as for turbos on the A6... gah, i don't wanna think about that. it's one thing to do a 6spd swap and get away with it by the skin of my chinny chin chin... and a complete other to mess with the motronic, ESP, and ABS..... it'll take away everything that makes the car a joy to drive everyday. it's bad enough to have a grabby clutch. i'd rather save the going fast for a car that's 1k lbs lighter from the get go.

i got a little more progress on the engine mounting setup i had in my head...
i wanted something that i could build universal mounts for anything the future may hold... so this is what i came up with.
these plates have long coupler nuts that will be welded in from the backside, and then the whole plate will be welded to the frame rail as a permanent fixture for an engine cradle.

marked where the holes go

drilled holes..

viola'!

same thing on the pass. side....

i also got the rest of the core support removed as it was too damaged from the accident to reuse. i do have an idea for a semi quick removal idea for the new core support that would make workin on the v8 much easier.

that's all for a couple weeks as i'm back in OR now. next time i go back i plan to have a bunch of suspension bits from my last 90q parts car to steam clean and work on getting the 5lug conversion done and get a proper suspension bolted back under her. then work on the brakes...
i also need a good 7A/3B pressure plate if anyone has one laying around. this engine isn't too hot, so a HD clutch isn't a big need.
i've also been doing a little research with a very smart friend of mine who has some cool engine programs and got me cam specs for a 12:1 4.2 that should put out around 440ish hp NA with a very nice hp and tq curve with peak hp @8k rpm. after driving an E30 M3 this week it kinda gave me the bug to put a nasty NA v8 in this thing since i already have the turbo 3B in my zermatt car. mix things up a big ya know? and that said, i found a cam shop that will grind me cams for a pretty reasonable sum, so that'll be something fun to play with.
my dad's having hernia surgery on monday and then planning on being a lame duck for a while, so i'm gonna work on my zermatt car and hopefully get some nice progress on that here soon 8)

P.S.
the more i think about it... the more i want my ronals back (well, not the 4 luggers, but the R38's). i'm gonna get in touch with ronal and see if they'll do me up some 8-8.5" rims with the offset i need to make them fit under the car because i really... really... miss this look..

i was sorting pics of what i've done this week and putting them in my back up hard drive, and looking over my old pics of this car... brought me real close to shedding a tear. this is the best car i've ever had and i've built her up, beat her to death, and she still gave me everything i could ever want. it's rejuvination time. the winds have changed, i've got a good new direction, and i'm excited about making this a better car than it was before and enjoying it all over again.
sorry about the emotional bits, i'm wierd like that sometimes
