I believe this is what Dhalback racing did in the Golf RSi

so i wonder if i'll have to limit the steering angle so as not to pop the joints apart at full lock? i'll have to play with it a bit. probably take a boot off and set everything up and rotate, lift the wheel up and down and turn it to make sure it functions properly. thanks for the pic, i remembered that one and was gonna go hunt it down

it'd be nice to be able to crawl under that car with a tape measure....
wondering if the Baja/SCORE desert and stadium racing people might have answers to what CV's would work with all kinds of travel in all directions... they seem to flex them in all directions, "stadium trucks" seem to turn very tightly... not 100% sure they are awd...
limiting the steering too much would put the kibash on autocrossing, donut shows and drifting...
pic from dahlback looks to me to have pretty radical angle caused by setting the motor and trans back... hard to tell for sure as suspension is hanging in the pics...

this is an update concerning a 5lug swap.
okie dokie! yesterday i picked up a couple of OK shape A8 wheels. spec are 17x8 ET48, which as you might know will set the wheel very far inward, allowing for wider wheels without wider body work. i hitched up one of the wheels onto a spare 5ktq strut assembly i have here and the measurements look great on it. i then removed the wheel on my 4kq (which has 90q struts on it) and mounted the wheel on the hub. first thing, is that it ever so slightly touches the 996C calipers. it could be fixed easily with about a 3-4mm spacer. the good news is that the wheels stick well within my fenders, like maybe a 8-10mm more than the ronals, that's good for tire clearance, but not so much for caliper clearance... the double edged sword i'm working on here

here's a few pics

bout 10mm of space, more than plenty

3" is how tall the sidewalls are on the 235/40/17's on my v8q, so i figured it a safe bet to work with.

ronal side. you can see the rim actually protrudes a little past the fender lip.

A8 side. still tucked inside a good deal.

hmmm... i think those'll look yummy

worst case scenario is that i'll have to bail on the 6pistons (which i'm going to try my absolute best to stuff in there) and live with the marginally ok 4piston calipers

also, like i've said before, i'm not opposed to lifting the car a half inch if needed for more clearance tirewise. it's not an impractical move in any way.

ah, righto. well, i only have one floor jack and i need to bring the wheel upward, so the widow maker got used

And apparently you have no jackstands? :bashtard:
BTW those wheels make me wanna say :woowoo:

:-D one nice thing about those wheels is that they are a cinch to clean 8)

I love those wheels....I run the TT equivalent on my GTI and they clear my Boxster calipers with plenty of room.

yeah, but are they ET48? probably more like ET35 ish which opens up a whole 10-13mm more clearance. if these were ET43's, i'd clear my current brakes no prob, but would need about another 5mm of clearance for the 6pistons. i'm wondering if the 6piston face can be milled down slightly *rubs chins* literally, every couple mm's of clearance here helps. i want these 6pistons on in the worst way

I believe the TT version is a 38mm offset. 5X100 bolt pattern though.

I thought the A4 version was 48mm & the A8 version is 38'ish?
But ease of cleaning or not..I just don't like them..sorry Derek

the A4's won't be 8" wide though

this is more function over form here without spending thousands on custom wheels. i can put some spacers in and whala, i have a new offset. it's harder to mill more material off a lower offset wheel.
it's ok if you don't like them Ron, i never really cared all that much for the OZ leggera's

Looking at these two pictures, won't you have tire rubbing issues at the end of the steering arm? Looking at the first picture, the steering arm goes beyond the inside plane of the wheel, where the tire will be.

What is the weight of those A8 wheels?

I'm confident that Derek will take all things into account before he drives down the road with his 235's. No worries!

I'm not sure if these are the same wheels or not but that look is juicey D3R3K. Tiz what makes me want to swap to 5bolt, but I already have some 17's for my 4k (that I can't seem to sell anyway!).

Edit- fixed the name Derek, that time I really didn't mean to mis-spell it

LOL

in my earlier post i said i'm planning on new steering arms

they'll be shorter and moved up or down to help with bump steer

mm, yeha josh, i think those rims'll do my car justice. i do have the option of a few different styles of ronal wheels that i can order new with the high offset in 5x112, but that'll be down the road if i get more cash and decide that the look really isn't as fitting as i first thought

(one good thing about the R38's is that they have even more brake clearance then the A8 wheel as the spokes are pushed outward to the max... which, come to think of it, might be my only option in order to fit the 6pistons)
