Ben's 924S
Re: Ben's 924S
What was the outside temps when getting 38° out of the vents? That's pretty darn cold!

Re: Ben's 924S
Some more progress on the 924 — I started to get the leather power seats into the car.
Here they are:

Had to run fused power to the drivers side seat but that was pretty simple.
I loved the Porsche script seats, but they were not in good shape and starting to split at the seams. This set of leather seats are really nice
Also, tackling the fuel smell in the cabin. Apparently, its a pretty common problem with 924s’s and pre-1985 944s that had the metal gas tanks. They all crack in the same place. Shown here:

So I have the fuel tank in my truck to take to a radiator shop locally for a welded fix. Then, back in!
Also I’ve bought all the one way valves and breather stuff. A lot of times, these one way valves stick and cause excess vacuum in the tank which would lead to the crack you see there.
Onward and upward!

Re: Ben's 924S
A bit of an update on this car.
Was rough running for a while and the fix ended up being the spark plugs - cheaper appears to be better for these motors!
Otherwise, really just been loving driving the thing. Got the “new” interior installed and have been enjoying it.
I am taking the car to a local body shop and getting the driver’s side dents fixed, repainted. Will make a huge difference. I’ll post up pics after!

Re: Ben's 924S
Got the car back from paint today!
Before:
If you remember, the PO had it hit in the door and back quarter.
I have replaced the door and a couple other dented parts. Here it is stripped down to go to the body shop:

I had the entire driver’s side repainted as well as a new non-dented nose piece.
Here’s the dented part all fixed up:

While I had things apart, I also rekeyed the door handle to match my key - this is the combination:

Here’s the car mostly put back together:
Really happy with the work!

Next I need to get the PORSCHE decal back on this side to match the other and also get the phone dials refinished. This car has come a really long way!

Re: Ben's 924S
Looks great!
Do Porsches of this era have the same US DOT spec bumper issues as Audis? Put another way, do US Porsche owners always look to upgrade to Euro goodies? I know literally nothing about Porsches other than I don’t think ill ever be able to shake my desire to have a 944 some day.

Re: Ben's 924S
They do. The US bumpers are similarly ugly
If you want a 944 - do it soon. They are going up in value quickly.
This car is a 924S which was sold in 87 and 88 but is basically a pre-1985 944 without the flared fenders. Same 2.5L 4 cylinder Porsche motor as the 944s - not the Audi 2.0 4 cylinder
Best handling car I have owned. Really great to drive these cars
