Re: jbrentd's 2nd Chance CQ - working that punchlist...
I saw in an earlier pic you have the ISV bracket on the air box. Any chance you would sell it? From what I can tell, it's the last part I need to put my CQ engine bay back to completely stock.

Sure thing. How soon do you need it? Not sure when I might get some time this week to work in the garage.DE80q wrote:I saw in an earlier pic you have the ISV bracket on the air box. No rush. I haven't even put the engine back together yet.

Re: jbrentd's 2nd Chance CQ - working that punchlist...
Does anyone know if the oil filter housings are different between the AAN and 3B 200?
When I mounted the AC compressor, I noticed that it is coming into contact with the turbo oil supply line flange that connects to the 3B's oil filter housing. It looks like the oil supply line on the AAN housing is at a slightly different angle then the 3B 200 housing (see pics below). Just want to confirm.
If true, I would like to see if anyone has one for sale. I could trade my 3B 200 housing.

Im not doing AC so this is not a concern of mine, however...would making a custom AN line help you? Not ideal as its more $$ but it may solve your problem.

Re: jbrentd's 2nd Chance CQ - working that punchlist...
I don’t think so. It’s the placement of where the supply comes off the housing that’s the issue. That wouldn’t change if I made my own. However, in retrospect, I should have built my own return line to the oil pan.morris400 wrote:Im not doing AC so this is not a concern of mine, however...would making a custom AN line help you? How comfortable are you using tubing benders to fix your return-->pan clearance issue? Swagelock fittings are good for 10k psi, and a couple fittings plus some stainless tubing won't break the bank.

On the return to the pan, it’s all clear since I sourced the S2 3B oil return pipe.PRY4SNO wrote:How comfortable are you using tubing benders to fix your return-->pan clearance issue? Swagelock fittings are good for 10k psi, and a couple fittings plus some stainless tubing won't break the bank.

Here are a couple of pics showing the interference with the AC compressor and the 3B oil filter housing. As some have confirmed on the FB page, an AAN oil filter is different and necessary to run AC in the 7A stock location. It’s also right in the S2/RS2 section of the ersatz S2 site. http://www.20v.org/s2/home.html

I also got some parts mounted up.

With the exception of swapping out the oil filter housing (got one inbound from Issam), I think I’m just down to running vacuum lines.

Working on making room in the coupe. Im thinking about removing the engine and transmission together. What’s your preferred method? Is it best to drop it with the subframe and all the suspension? Or other? I do plan to refresh all brake parts and bushings while it’s apart.

Just to follow up on the AC compressor interfering with the 3B oil filter housing, here are some pics with the AAN oil filter housing and AAN oil supply line installed. No more interference issues. And about 1/2 to 3/4” more space between the filter and compressor, to boot.

And some comparison pics between the AAN (right) and 3B (left).

Progress is a little slower than I’d like on the coupe, but I was able to get some of the suspension torn down this afternoon.
I’d like to find a set of brake dust covers, but won’t hold my breath. I’ll probably just knock down the rust and apply the 3-step POR15 products. Thinking about using that stuff on a decent amount of the suspension and steering parts.

Thanks. I have used their engine paint kit twice and liked the results. I'll probably just use their satin black base coat for the control arms, subframes, strut mounts, axle shafts, and tie rods. Most everything else will be new.PRY4SNO wrote:Things are coming along nicely!

Re: jbrentd's 2nd Chance CQ - working that punchlist...
Stupid Question Alert!
The coupe is on jack stands, the front brakes and suspension are torn out, and all 4 alxes are still bolted up to the differentials. So, the ground and brakes are not available to me. What's the best way to break the CV joint bolts loose? Put the car in gear and attach the crank lock tool to keep the engine/drivetrain from rotating?

Impact gun. Just make sure the allen key is well seated, and they buzz right out.

Thanks Justin.
Good times working on the rear suspension/braking tear down. Both rear ABS sensors were stuck. Got sticker shock on replacements until I was pointed in the direction of the big truck’s sensor options.

Yeah, that was poorly worded. The truck replacements are around $30 - $40 versus $200 replacements that I found on rock auto.PRY4SNO wrote:Re: sticker shock, are you saying there's a replacement sensor we can repurpose for cheaper, or that the cost of a similar unit on a big truck is vastly higher so it seemed less dear by way of perspective?
Meritor/Wabco ABS Sensor Kit R955341. Lots to choose from on eBay. Only thing is the wires are longer and will need to be zip tied.
