Great pics of the trip. It awesome that your wife made the trip with you. I can’t get mine to go to the grocery store with me in the CQ. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

It's always a treat seeing your pics on my Instagram feed, but seeing the highlights and more on my laptop take the cake. Well done, as usual.
The headlights look really good too, btw. Nice subtle nod to some new technology lurking beneath. Form meets function FTW.

Love the headlights, they absolutely are function over form... But they do look quite good too. Well worth the space they take up. Better than the S8 euro bixenon.

Re: Alex's 'New' '83 UrQuattro - BBQ X Success
Started work on figuring out the diff lock vacuum routing since they had been previously just disconnected to add aux gauges. Traced all the tubing, replaced the vacuum lines and found out that one of the diaphragms in the actuators was bad. Ordered up the $20 Mercedes actuators and it worked like a charm (p/n 000-800-69-75-M22). Had to tap the thread (M4x0.7 IIRC) but other than that it's pretty much a drop in replacement. One of the mount screws doesn't line up but 2 seems enough. I still don't think the center diff is actuating but I think that's now a function of the cable being frozen, need to troubleshoot that some. Rear works great now. Also need to find out where I want to put the diff lock, it's currently sitting on the passenger floor.
Also took it to a dyno to see where the baseline sits. Haven't really done much to the tune that came on it (and was done probably 15 years ago) besides increase a little timing. Should've changed plugs as the current coppers have probably 4k miles on them with no closed loop so a pretty rich cruise atmosphere with lots of miles to BBQ and back. Was missing pretty bad in the 1st pull in 4th, and still some breakup on the final two pulls in 3rd. But overall pretty much where I expected it to be and gives me a baseline to work from. Wideband has been acting up so I need to work on that wiring, then just work on the tune. 200whp/220wtq at around 16psi.

As normal, the car looks great.
The Dyno results are are a little disheartening for me though. Being on a 2871 I would have though it be a little higher. I really need to get mine on a Dyno one of these days.

There's probably quite a bit left in the tune, I think it's probably got 250whp in it on pump gas without water injection. Don't want to push too hard until I know if the valves have been replaced yet. Also need to hook up some knock sensors to listen to.DE80q wrote:As normal, the car looks great.

Nice to see some cross compatibility from other manufacturers. Why Audi doesn't give a shit about heritage cars is beyond me.
Incredible to think that some spark plugs and a 'tune up' could gain you almost fifty at the wheels but these old engines are resilient.
Thanks for the update, they're always enjoyable.

Yeah for 16psi those numbers are solid! You've definitely got some easy power left in it. Car looks phenomenal as always.

There would be more boost involved to get that power, guess I should've clarified that [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]. I think I can probably get away with closer to 20 on 91oct but we'll see. Also have a water injection kit laying around I might throw on.PRY4SNO wrote:Nice to see some cross compatibility from other manufacturers. Nice job, this thing is a champion! It really looks awesome in all the scenery.
Even though it may be what you wanted from the dyno - 200wtq/hp is no joke at the weight and at 13psi it's not even started.

Re: Alex's 'New' '83 UrQuattro - BBQ X Success
At 15psi, and cutting out at 4k RPM, my 4000 put down 215whp when Marc was tuning it (cut out was b/c of breakup due to the 60-2 wheel and losing signal above 4k RPM). We estimated around 250whp at 25psi.... then I melted a piston or cooked a HG, either way - there's room w/ a 2871 without going to crazy.DE80q wrote:The Dyno results are are a little disheartening for me though. Car looks amazing, Alex! Really looking forward to getting our UrQ restored!
