07k longitudinal oil pan
Does anyone have the parts for making a 07k longitudinal, I bought the 07k a while back, and just looked on Iroz and they don't sell the parts anymore. Or does anyone know of any other companies that make those parts?

For example I wanted to fab some other stuff and just by flipping the subframe around backwards I was able to drop the engine in the car with stock upper and mid pan. But ones the trans is involved its a different story.
The other concern I have heard is that the stock pan could run dry due to where the pickup is located. Its hard for me to imagine that VW made a car that cant sustain cornering forces, but maybe it's true. If you look at the pan Hank made it includes baffles and trap doors unlike the stock pan and the sump is modified to sit where you want it.
I see the time attack/hillclimb A4 is or was running stock pans and looked like it was doing OK but I bet its not ideal.

Remaking the pan looks like a dead end to me. I mean if I was to do it I’d go chips all in. It may be possible to cut off the portion needed for the bellhousing and save that but remake the rest, but I don't know if you could weld to it new aluminum to old.
I see one that has been modified and re used parts of it by trimming it down to almost nothing and welding up some new.

I don't think it would starve for oil, it's probably better than any original I5 oil pan even though it's off axis. The other option is to rotate the motor almost vertical like Dutter racing did. It requires welding new mount tabs on the transmission, or there was talk on one of the FB groups of an adapter plate. By rotating, I think it would almost clear the subframe. Maybe only some light mods are required.

That’s a good point that original pan looks like it’s only good when the car is not moving .
I’d say after riding in an RS3 when it launches the stock pan is pretty good .
I like the tilt method personally , with the way mine is set up at least some of the holes in the timing cover kind of verify that it’s centered and in the right spot .
But I wonder with dutter’s if any of them line up or did they use all new ones

The stock 034/035 oil pan is just a big long stamping, no baffles or anything.
I don't understand how a transverse pan won't work... transverse cars can corner a lot harder, and longer, than longitudinal cars can accelerate or brake. And cornering would put the pan in a beneficial orientation.
Cut and modify the crossmember (it needs modifying for suspension geometry reasons anyway), lower the sway bar or relocate it to the back side of the crossmember, which is probably a better idea since it will be torquing against the firewall instead of two origami sticks hanging out front.

I believe you are correct . I think the transverse pan would work . It might not be ideal but I’m really surprised that no one just remakes the subframe . If one was starting from scratch it is no doubt easier to deaign a subframe than an oil pan . But I don’t know how much lower it would sit , there is not much lower to go up front ground clearance wise in these cars . My subframe already has some battle scars . I don’t know maybe someone knows something I don’t .

Pretty sure it's the same trappings of success that happened to 034. Company makes a name for themselves building skookum parts for old cars, then taps into the bigger market of modern cars and then it's not worth the time to build boutique parts for an already small (and diminishing) market.urgewalt wrote:Why is IROZ not making them anymore ?

I thought about a custom oil pan also,however the 07k pan is not a bad design.
Worse case scenario, we could add some baffles if oil starvation was a concern.
I'm leaning towards a tubular subframe with modified control arm positions for both bump steer
correction due to the car being lowered and maybe even slight caster improvement.
I don't think the anti roll bar would be much of an issue, however I could be wrong.
Time will tell

The Audi rally cars had 1-2" spacers under the subframe, I assume to make transmission swaps easier. The transmission also bolted to the body instead of the subframe.
Audi wasn't all that concerned about handling, they weren't really a "rally company", so making the roll center even worse than stock wasn't that big of a deal to them.
I ant to ditch the stock subframe altogther and make something of my own using Rabbit ball joints and control arms as a starting point, to get the roll center higher and get some prosquat, which should help acceleration out of corners.
