Turbo speed signal to VEMS

Post by Neacail »

Yes I searched.
I'm getting a Borg Warner S257SX-E for my AAN, and I'm running VEMS PnP.
I've tried googling, and I've searched here as well and if there is info, I didn't find it.
What capability does VEMS have for turbo speed input software wise? The hardware/wiring side I'm not worried about, it seems pretty straightforward. I was wondering if anyone has set this up in vemstune, and how it might be used as a protection.

Thanks!

Lol this isn't vortex man, people here don't jump on a guy for asking questions based on post count.

Anyways, I'm not actually sure as I haven't seen anyone set up like that. Do you have a low/high level limit signal you can input with distinct voltages to set an audible alarm or dash warning (by, say, triggering the MIL)? So that if it reaches the lower threshold you get one warning and the high limit you get another? That would seem relatively simple to set up using an open channel on Vems. Or perhaps not, just spitball'n here.

IIRC you need a frequency input for turbo speed.
"The speed sensor is powered by a +5V supply and the return signal is a variable frequency square wave that has maximum amplitude of 5V and has a 50% duty cycle"
https://www.full-race.com/store/borg-wa ... sor-kit-2/
So, it depends on the spec of your PnP. Does it have the wheel speed 1 or PS2 option? If wheelspeed1, it's on EC18-8. No idea what that corresponds to on the PNP. PS2 is separate.
It would be best to check with the supplier of your ECU.

Here is another sensor, looks the same but only $60 https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-7L-Turbo-Spe ... 53&vxp=mtr

I run one of these, but they seem to be unavailable now. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Road-Rage-G ... 2509207405

It converts the signal to a standard 0-5v analog output.

requires a bit of breadboard action, but is totally doable.

This might be the way to go, it's bench testable and can be calibrated. I've got an oscilloscope with a frequency generator so it might be best to just give VEMS a 0-5v input.
I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
