AKMS avoided saying anything about eliminating the snubber mount. Just to reinforce the transmission tunnel and ditch the front transmission mounts. I’m opting to utilize all the mounts including the snubber

Hey guys. I’m sitting here pondering how to go about doing up the tunnel. Is the tunnel one layer of sheet metal or two? I’ve got an idea but it’s easier if it’s one layer where the 4 holes need to be drilled.

I've run a couple different setups without a snub. My '89 20vt Avant used mustang trans mounts for motor mounts and no snubber. Didn't make a ton of power but I used to launch the shit out of it constantly and never saw any signs of anything moving.

More recently I ditched the snub in my 1.8t B6. This thing doesn't make much for torque, but it made 330whp in this video. It uses homemade semi-solid (hockey puck) engine mounts, stock single trans mount, and has very little engine movement:

I honestly think the snub is only really there so that they could run comfortable (super soft) engine mounts. You might need it if you're shooting for the moon power-ways, or are planning on tracking the car REALLY aggressively, but even then I'm not sure it's really necessary.

Nice! So that's where that fancy mount goes that we gave you for Christmas! Now I know where it goes and how things are coming together!

Wow! Thank u! My parents are wonderful people. I’m glad I have their support in this. My project wouldn’t have been possible with out them. Thanx again Marc! I’m going to be getting your VEMS ECU at some point for this project. Just a heads up! ;)

Well. I regret to say that this 01E mount from AK Motorsports does not fit this car at all. It's geometry is off to the point that it will not go up into the trans tunnel with out banging in the tunnel from underneath the car. They told me that I have to fabricate and reinforce the tunnel. After that no more response. I don’t see me beating the tunnel in and then cutting and welding it back together. If it fit into place so I can mark it then fabricate that’s one thing.

On the website they do say that it is not a bolt-on and requires fabrication on the chassis side to make it work, but that message is somewhat understated in the description. You may need to cut a slice out of the tunnel, bolt the trans in place using the forward mounts, then fabricate the replacement tunnel section w/ mounting points for the AK rear mounting plate. HTH

Yes. I agree. I’m going to save it for a later date. It bolts to my 01E just fine so I can make it work. I thought it fit better then I anticipated. I’m trying to get it to run without making it a full race car. But I have a good feeling it’s going to be sooner then later. I never seen anything like that mount before so I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Is that the firewall AC hardline fitting you've routed the wiring through?

Yes. I had it routed that way in the beginning but changed it to the grommet for the seat belt cable

Anyone know what size vacuum line goes to the VEMS urs4/6 ecu? My Wagner I.M. hose barbs are 3.67mm at its lowest point. I suppose it’s 3.5mm then.

This project is really coming along, I like what you are doing, the transmission tunnel you left it? No slicing and stretching it out a tiny bit? Is that a stock 3b 20v intercooler? What are your HP/TRQ goals? This looks like a really fun project, I have enjoyed watching.

Awesome! Thank you! I left the tunnel alone for now. Maybe after its up and running I'll consider installing the rear mount. The intercooler is from Wagner Tuning. Its the short path. They sell just the cooler now. Before I think you had to get the entire $990 kit. Due to the length of the cooler inlet and outlets its not going to sit dead center. Maybe a 1/2'' off. If I was to remake the power steering pump pulley bracket to hug the block tighter it would be able to have the room. My goal is about 450-500hp with the egine the way it is inside. I want the chassis built for much more then that though.
