Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
So the front of the Rad air intake needed a transition (see pic. above). Made one of these for each side. (Still needs to get cut flush with the rocker)
Side panel on pass. side cut and fit. Have to do the other side yet and then prime/paint and then weld the panels permanently.
Getting there......

Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
Nice, I figured it wouldn't be an MC1 or anything but I was curious. Keep up the great work!
Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
Plan to use the 7A block with modified 7A head, Wagner intake, I think the turbo is a holset he 351ve (purchased over 9 years ago) and of course the supporting mods. Most of the parts I have been collecting for over 15 years and still need to make 2 more big purchases as well as a some small ones.ringbearer wrote:Nice, I figured it wouldn't be an MC1 or anything but I was curious. Thought you guys might like the new view.
Tomorrow I should get 1/2 day in the garage. Yeah.........

Wow, talk about dedication... parts hoarding for 15 years! Makes me feel better taking 5 to get where I am so far haha
What are your plans for actuation of the variable geometry turbine? Or just keep it simple and run at one A/R?

Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
Idea is to use linear actuator via PWM from the ecu. I found some that I think are fast enough but the torque might be a little on the weak side. Next up would be wastegate actuator with valve in control line for adjustability. If that does not work I will find the turbos sweet spot, lock that mechanically and put an electric turbo in the intake tract to help out the bottom end. I think the newer 1.4 engines use a electic turbo to eliminate lag running at 48 Volts. Mine would be a handmade/homemade unit of course and hoping to get away with 12-24 Volts.PRY4SNO wrote:Wow, talk about dedication... parts hoarding for 15 years! Thank you sir. I have to be honest , this started out with just a fender graft on all for corners. You know Just 2 moths of work, maybe 4 on the outside and morphed into what you see in these pages.

PP is the home of scope creep. You are in the right place.

So its official, scope creep is a disease and I have it!!!!!!!!!!!!the german wrote:PP is the home of scope creep. You are in the right place.
Bottom of Rad intake closure pieces are made and have radius on uphill side. Still need radius on downhill side. This piece is for the passenger side and the wire is longer than the other, as the pass. side was hit in that area and the wire reestablishes the body line.
Area that was hit. So one part was pushed in and the door edge was pushed out, that required some brutal hammer blows to straighten. You can see the area that needs a new bodyline.
Other side mocked up. On this side the wire is quite a bit shorter as all the sheet metal meets nicely.
Still have two more transition pieces to make for the side of the Rad intake. Need to get those done before paint and final welding.

Thanks, as far as the pictures they load fine for me and should only be supersized when you click on them !pete82 wrote:Cool project and have thought about something like this in the past.

off topic but is it just me that finds the pictures supersize and not fit to page
Anyone else having this problem ?
Both bottoms done, radius on each side
More detail work. Only got one side done so other side is next.

Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
sorry I should have been more clearer with my post. They load but instead of showing the full picture I only get part of the picture with scrollers for up/down to see the rest of the picture unlike most sites that show a slightly smaller version then if you click the picture it shows the full picture.Einbilden wrote:Thanks, as far as the pictures they load fine for me and should only be supersized when you click on them !Toxcheap wrote:Nice progress!

Sorry if I missed it but what engine are you planning on using in this?
Re: Audi Coupe with Porsche 944 Box Flairs
Incredible detail work, really draws everything together nicely.
Curious about the screw in the last pic, the one that holds the panel onto the body. Is it just there to hold the seam in place while it gets welded?

@pete82: Sorry you are having issues with the pictures. I took a look at user control panel but could not find any relevant settings for pictures , wish I could help. Engine 7A Turbo.
@PRY4SNO: Yes screw just holds panel in place for alignment and welding and will go away once welding is done.
Have one more transition to make for driver side Rad intake. Should have Pictures in a couple days.

More metal found its way on the car.
Was hoping to get other side this far but had to cut and re weld a small area.

what was up with the porsche? and where are u located
you going to do any work to the side skirts to flair them out at all or leave them flat like the 944's

Sorry I thought it was understood that the Porsche fenders ended up on the Audi.
Washington State, on the wet coast.
Side skirts have been modified (see few pages up).
Got some painting done on areas that get covered with some of the parts I made and welded the side and bottom transitions to the car.
Driver side
Now all of that needs seam sealed, primed and painted.
