So this is still my only car and I still have my job ;)

I haven't broken another Turbo bolt yet, I separated the wastegate to a separate screamer pipe and added a stainless flex in the DP (there's one right near where the exhaust bolts up but trying to be overly cautious here).

I also rerouted all of my ISV plumbing so that it now draws from the intercooler piping. I had suspected a leaky ISV and finally getting to an intake pressure test made this obvious.

I played with my cam timing- definitely NOT the problem.

Do have a bit of noise coming in on the crank sensor signal.

Sorry I'm rambling but check it:

I think I'm finally almost where I should be! :D

There ya go. Nice work Shawn. That's actually pretty decent spool considering it's a 1.8t. Ball bearing 30r with .82 housing on the AAN is about the same.

Thanks Matt!! Slowly but surely :)

I'm going to do another pressure test today, it's strange, the ISV I'm using is from an old Saab turbo and was leaking out the top of the body  I plumbed the feed into the intake and epoxied the top where it was leaking which combined made a huge difference.

I think with a little fine-tuning I can get 25psi at 4500 which I think is about as much as I'm going to get out of this setup. The screamer pipe has actually been a good diagnostic tool because I can hear when the gate starts to open. It starts cracking around 20psi, base spring pressure is 15psi so I think I'll crank it down just a little bit more.

I'm considering doubling up my wastegate diaphragms, I have a spare but I'm not sure if it's worth the insurance or if I should just keep it as a good spare in case this one ever pops.

I don't see any crank position noise in that log.

Keep it up Shawn. Love the build.

Thanks Nick!! :D

This log was taken running sequential ignition without a cam sync which is how I've been running the car, and it usually doesn't happen when you roll into it from low RPM. We didn't see any noise or trig errors on the dyno either- it only happens when the motor is below 30* or when you drop gears to higher RPM, say from 5th-3rd for a pull.

Adding in the cam sync causes it to throw primary or secondary trigger errors when cold, sometimes to the point of a no start, and does the same when dropping gears but worse. With the cam sync active sometimes it also does it during pulls from low rpm (won't do that without cam sync). My assumption is that I have a minor trigger error being caused by something and adding the cam sync and its additional accuracy is enough to exacerbate/cause more/worse trigger errors.

I've moved some wiring around, my grounds are all pretty beefy and it's a factory harness with the same setup for shielding etc. It's a kind of a pain in the butt issue to diagnose because of the limited circumstances it occurs at.

I will try to get some this week, it does sound nice at full boost and I've got the DV/BOV cranked the way down so you get just a little bit of Group B compressor surge :D

I want to hit the dyno again so bad now but the budget probably won't be there until spring. Looking like it's almost time to start another thread, which also means the A4 car will get 100% back-burnered until spring-summer :(

It should make a lot more power just by having the spool that much earlier. More time for it to cliiiiimb

Has anyone ever had weird issues caused by leaving knock phones plugged in with the aux cable just hanging out? I thought of it the other day, unplugged them and seem to have lost the trigger error issues I had been having

Little progress has been made on anything because I have been slammed at work and with my graphic design class I'm taking, and we went to Boston for a company party with 18 people last weekend. We went to F1 Boston (I won of course), stopped at the NH liquor store on the way and as soon as karting was over the partying began. We spent $2k at dinner, another grand at the hotel bar after, crashed some company's party and got kicked out, and generally caused a lot of debauchery. We won Boston. So I've been nursing a hangover for like a week... I'm getting old :punch:

Pic for proof of victory:

Qualified 5/10 for the final race (6 heats) and laid down the fastest lap of the day en route to overall victory! Top speed of 48.xx mph definitely a helluva weekend :D

Broke 10k on the engine build :D

Had some issues with my cam/crank sensors. Right now it's running sequential w/o a cam sensor so it starts, like sometimes ;) I'm working on this and will hopefully have a resolution soon but I think it's coils and I have spent too much on trying to get the car to pass VT inspection at the moment so for now it works. I hope to hit the dyno again in early spring with Marc, I'm selling the 911 because the motor/trans I had lined up came out 30-50psi/cylinder and I just cannot afford them anywhere else due to the market, so I will have money for fun projects agian.

I got new tires, had a Carquest tie rod end go to shit in ~4 months so I replaced that with a Febi/Bilstein and got (another) alignment, also did front rotors and pads. Hopefully with that combination it will pass inspection tomorrow. In celebration of said impending event we celebrated at the end of repairs:

It sucks a little, but it was more of an investment and therefore not as beat-able, or fun as other potential projects.

Mostly sucks because of the potential of a straight-piped-911-and-Gromit-riding-shotgun with the ladies. But trust me, even so it's very, very far from a bad situation ;)

Regarding 1.8t spool times, the below is a graph from a local racer. This is with a GTX2863R on a really sweet manifold built by a local race shop (Kale's Custom). Based on that I think I'm about maxed out in terms of spool time with this 12cm. I'm thinking about a .63 housing but also thinking about doing a semi-built head (cams, springs and exhaust valves in an AEB casting) to just extend the powerband to 8k. We shall see.

Well, against all odds and against the actual laws themselves the B6 passed inspection which includes an OBD readiness test. Pretty impressive for an OBDII car that doesn't even have a factory ECU in it ;)

I think the housing will really make the turbo shine. Good choice.

Holset party! Yeah I'm pretty excited to see how it performs, if it's a 500rpm improvement in spool it will make this setup MUCH more streetable, I've come to the conclusion a 1.8 just cannot provide good spool and transient response with a 12cm, at least with my long runner exhaust manifold.

I've been having a good time with the local WRX/Evo crowd but I'm sick of having to reel them in after they pull on the hit. This should solve that problem.

So yesterday I went out and took a bunch of logs to document spool with the 12cm housing. It's my b-day Monday so I took a long weekend to get all this stuff installed before I have to go to the Porsche swap meet in Hershey PA next weekend.

This housing is shorter on the downpipe side, so I need to extend the downpipe a little and I'm routing the wastegate dump back into the exhaust- it's currently dumping to atmosphere but it drowns out the turbo so I'm putting it back into the downpipe.

Should be back together tonight or tomorrow and I'll have log overlays hopefully Monday evening or Tuesday after work.

So you will be down in my area again next weekend huh? You'll have to hit me up, and hang out for a little.
