On a 1991 200 20vt is it possible to split the shifter linkage from underneath at the adjustment points, remove those from the trans and then pull forward through the engine bay without removing/dropping anything else?
Sure hope so would really like to replace that bushing with something other than a zip tie inside of a vacuum hose piece. Thanks for inputs

ive done that on a v8 converted to 5-speed using a 200 20v tunnel and trans.. I would think its the same with a 200. Its a tight squeeze, but I think its possible.
current: -mk4 tdi wagon with some mods -TDI b3 90q, holset turbo, be strong little connecting rods! -the turbo tractor past: -11 second 90q junker -20vt swapped 90q winter beater -efi 20vt 4kq -way too many other long gone urs's, 200's 4000's, b5's
That's great. Precisely what u was hoping to read! Thanks. Next step is confirming part numbers for the 01e and 016 linkages to see if the apikol piece is an option. It's only one less gear, right?

I have this process in my mind.. it's very similar to install g the 034 short shift stick into the ball and socket joint at the bottom. Lemme know what you think:
This is hopefully don't under the car. I am currently able to push the linkage and bushing up and off of the ball on the 016 shift mechanism. Could I lift it, push the bushing down and put of the linkage as well, put the ball into the bushing and lightly hearse the top of the bushing to be, lastly, pushed back into the linkage from underneath? Lots of question bUT only one question mark there TIA

When I was looking under the gas pedal I got the crazy idea to see where that plastic plate leads. Was hoping for a small tunnel to the shifter bushing like similar to the fuel pump hatch so it didn't seem crazy at the time lol
I stopped when u got to the sticky black shit layer under the sound insulation. Anybody ever cut through there?

I'll look at the bushing for real after work tomorrow since I have a doc apt and the 5k's battery is shot. That's all I have important to do concerning travel so the weekend is a good bet for looking around/disassembly.

Yeeaaahhhh this project was HORRIBLE! My arms are on fire from rubbing against everything possibly abrasive under this car. I had to try installing it 4 times with 2 of those tries involving removal and uncrimping the bushing to remove and trying again with the bushing hovering over the linkage it presses into. Had no freakin idea the trans "ball" thing couldn't be pressed into the bushing with everything installed in the linkage beforehand.
I have everything done now except I have to figure out how the hell to crimp the bushing with it still installed. I'm afraid to check, but I may have even shit myself struggling and wrestling with this garbage...
