Gates racing blue timing belts
Gates racing blue timing belts
Ive been in contact with gates about making a timing belt for the AAN/3B that would be part of their racing line. i have installed several of these belts on 1.8T and V6 engines and i love them. gates wanted to know if i had any ties in the forums to get a buy in going on getting the first run of these belts going. would any of you guys have any interest at all in having the gates racing belt over the regular conventional belt? they havnt quoted me a price or how many would have to be sold to get the first batch out yet but i will post info as i get it from them.
Check out the info yourself on the belts.

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
I'm interested in a racing belt for my alh, let me know what they need to start a run...how many belts.
Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
I thought these were already available? Maybe it isn't gates. Anyway, I'd be interested in Stock and wider than stock belts.

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
im not sure on the ALH belt from gates, you'll have to contact them about that. im just working on stock sized belts for now with them, i figure one step at a time and if the stock belts are successful than i will propose to them a wider version as well. my email is messed up as the moment so i need to get that sorted and see if gates has emailed me back.
well i called my local ISP and it turns out they deleted my email account by accident during the migration to their new email server. i was wondering why i wasnt hearing anything back from gates or anyone for that matter. FML.....

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
So, pardon the potentially ignorant question but, are the OE/conti belts prone to breakage, at least before 60k miles? I wouldn't trust the water pumps on the AAN much longer than so I'd be in there anyway to change that...

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
Hey Guys. No there is no current Gates hi performance belt for our 5 bangers.
I would certainly by like 10 of them to start if you can get them to build it - assuming the price is reasonable..

This.
It's not about longevity, these will be beneficial to anyone making massive power. Cam retard at big power and rpm can be significant. Resonant vibration of the belt at high rpm is also a concern. This May shift the frequency of that resonance in a favorable direction. Lots of factors to consider here other than longevity.

I remember reading somewhere that the blue gates racing belts are not recommended for street use, and that they do not have as long of a lifespan as the regular belts. My impression was that they are better reinforced and therefor stiffer then street belts, but because of this they also fatigue faster.

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
actually for the AAN you can use a nissan CA18DET gates racing belt. so atleast us AAN guys have a solution for a high grade kevlar timing belt.
Gates racing timing belt part # for nissan CA18DET=T137RB
rock auto has the belt for 48.00.
I attached a picture of the data for the AAN belt and the CA18DET belt both from gates so you can see for yourself that their pretty much indentical. companys like greddy and several other JDM companies offer kevlar race timing belts for the CA18DET. as for the 3B/7A and ADU guys im still going to work on gates to get race belts for you guys as well.

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
It doesn't seem that they ever nailed down a causal relationship. Might be tension, tensioner, or belt related.

Re: Gates racing blue timing belts
i bet any money they just put the gates belt on only and didnt replace any of the tensioners or idlers rollers. i've seen a few cars over the years that have chewed off a brand new belt because they did belt only and not a full service kit. the old worn rollers tend to not like the the tension and stress of the new belt especially with the racing belt that has less give than an OEM replacment belt.

It seems like they were all using manual tensioners, I'd guess they were over tightened.
