spark plug thoughts

I've been running bkr7e plugs ever since I can remember. Never really had any issues. Thought I may try one step colder plug. Picked up a set of NGK 4554 plugs today.

What's your thoughts ? Should I just stick with bkr7e or will this be better?

Try the 4554's. I am running the next cooler 9 range plug and love them. More predictable tuning and no slight aluminum deposits after running them for a long time. I was a big fan of the bkr7e for a long time but unfortunately have traced them back to very slight detonation that was causing the deposits.

How are you liking the 9s? These ones seem to run better and the car pulls harder then before too. But I'm still noticing slight misfire at idle whitch is nerve racking. I've always noticed it and changed everything out possible. Coils plugs injectors vac lines you name it it's changed. Stumped Here.

Car runs great otherwise.

What is your set up? Are you stock? What gap do you use? Maybe my gap is to tight at 0.25?

Awesome. I have now lol. That's more aggressive then my chipped k24. Lol. What's the stock number on the heat range 9 Ngk plugs?

Tried out the ngk 8 heat range and man what a difference. She pulls harder then ever before. Gonna stick with these now over the bkr7e.

I like this discussion. Currently running the 7's in my VEMS'd out 3b and ran smooth until got some bad gas and then had to put octane booster in. Even after going through all that bad gas I'm still getting some hesitation at full boost (around 20psi). Did you experience similar with the Bkr7e's?

I'm heading to the FLAPS after school for a set of these 4554's.

Bkr7e are notorious for not wanting to fire after a certain amount of time at higher boost levels. Mine would foul probably every 1000 miles. Fuel tune was perfect. They probably could have been gapped better though.

Switched back to bkr7es a month a go or so. Re gaped today cause the gap was all messed. Going with a .20ish gap to see how she runs. Chasing a bad misfire under load right now.

Misfire found and fixed. .20 gap runs great.

Good to hear, that's a pretty small gap though. If it works it works, but I would suspect it's masking something else. Bad coil, plug, wire, or maybe you need more dwell on boost.

I agree with Jimmy. Not firing off at a bigger gap is a sign that some part of your ignition system is weak.

I'm gonna test coils this weekend to be safe. With that said stock gap is .23 and mine are now between .20-25. So I'm right in ball park for stock gap no?

But yes it's a move in a positive direction.

Like Jim said, if it works it works! It could be just fine, but at least it's a thought and data point for the future if you have more problems.

If you had an AAN valve cover I'd offer you my 2.0t coils for diagnostic purposes.

I do have a spare 7a VC you could have machined to save you downtime...
