Looks like a pretty clean engine bay to me and it sounds lots better than mine. Is it ready to run on the roads yet?

I just noticed the black overflow tank. I guess if the OEM tanks are NLA and the 25yr old tank is dirty brown, this is the new alternative. It will be interesting to see if it stays stuck to the plastic. Looks good I think. Did you paint it with anything special?

Sweet Hank! Which exhaust is that? It's not the aluminum is it? Let me know when the dyno is scheduled!

The sounds is pretty cool. I don't know if the tone comes over different on the vid, but the sound in real life is completely different from the 2.2L. You can hear that extra stroke in the way of deeper tone. All that said, it revs much faster than the old AAN piston motor and about equal to my old wiseco 2.2L. The biggest difference is that it is smooth again. The "should I balance" debate come up all the time when people throw rods in, but I again am convinced that you can get away with it though having a balanced engine is completely worth the hassle and cost. The 3600 rpm resonance is gone and I found myself blipping the throttle to 5000rpm without effort before i realized how high I was actually reving!!

I am pretty excited. This thing is turning into beast status!

Darin, the exhaust is the 034 unit from your Lago. I need to delete the cat with a test pipe to get an accurate dyno comparison. It sounds great right now though!! I spent the weekend in Chris B's s2 with that exhaust and it was nice on the freeway with little drone.

I'm completely with you on the balanced engine debate. I ran like that for a year and a half--it ran, and didn't show any internal wear to bearings or anything. But goddamn, is the new balanced motor nice. SILKY smooth, extremely easy to clip the throttle to 5-6000 like you said.

That looks and sounds rad dude, good work!

Awesome Hank! Wish I could have made it over there to see this in person. And by the way, your invention for bleeding brakes was bloody brilliant!

Care to share? Bleeding brakes is one of my least favorite things to do.

ShavedQuattro wrote:Just picked up a 81 Euro URQ with 100k miles.. It looks like a good one. Got it in San Diego where it spent a yea after spending it's life in Reno Nevada. The car came with no motor( well just shortblock) which i don't really care about sense it is gonna get the 20v motor of death out of my 5000tq and eventually probly a mean 20v thereafter... I need to build a new header for the URq because i don't think my 5k header will fit and plus i sold it... :)

Picture sucks, taking digi pictures of a picture sucks...

I started to dig into the car though today... and i have a question i need answered( thus the lame post with no pictures)

What is the best way to cut up the crossmember on these cars? Ive seen people just cut a hacksaw the front next to the hood releases, sortof unclassy but funtional... Its gonna get a huge IC and stuff, so i need to do it sooner or later, and i want to get the shortblock out today...

any advise??

This is true. I give Ron a hard time for his grammar and voice, but I was just as bad 7 years ago!

Sean, it is kind of ironic that you wanted my white car as a parts car for your "red pill" that is now a parts car :)

Bite your tongue!! I think I take offense to that....if everybody would bring the parts back it wouldn't be a parts car. :o I don't count using new parts that were bought for that car, like the turbo, as robbing from a parts car. Even using the dash really doesn't count seeing as I have already replaced it with all the parts to do an updated dash. I think that there are some that are just wishing it was a parts car.

No time unfortunately. The big push the last two weeks have put me behind in my school/work. I barely touched the car this week after getting it started. I got a new harness for the Euro harness and vowed to not drive it till that wiring mess is taken care of.

This is really the only update to account for my time.
