Ok, so official damage report:

10 bent intake valves (cyl 3 were almost perfect though).
8 collapsed lifters
4 seats were damaged and had to be slightly reground.

Official causes of failure:
Cat camshaft was not machined perfectly on the area where the gear clamps giving only ~10% of the normal clamp force. See image:

The dark ring is the only portion of the gear that was grabbing the cam nose.

Also, the tommis billet center lug wasn't machined perfectly. The key was slightly too tall to allow the lug to fall all they way down the cams keyway.

The head should be back later this week or next.

Intercooler came. This thing should be fun to get situated...

Just the hood safety will have to be removed. The hood latches will still be fully functional.

So I bought this kit for my B5 some 4 years ago. http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_S4--2. ... ar/ES3653/ The ebrake hung at some point warping the rotors but since I didn't drive the B5 much they just stayed on it. When I sold the car I felt guilty having crap brakes on the car so I reverted it back to stock. Since I spent good money on this brake kit, I said fuck it, I'll hang them on my wall in the garage to look cool at least rather than throwing them out.

So, I got to thinking since I've been able to make plenty of B5 parts work on the 200 I'd give these a whirl. Long story short, the brakets needed a tiny bit machined off of them (pictured above) and I needed to get B5 S4 caliper carriers. The 200's calipers bolt right to them without an issue and the ebrake cables reach without an issue as well.

Had the rotors turned and they are nice and true now.

The rotors are 306mm vs stock 276 and they weight less since they have aluminum hats. Win win.

That… intercooler…. is out of control.

I think Chris ran that same IC on his 200 and he only had to slightly bend the hood safety latch forward to make it work. Removal was not necessary AFAIK. I'd be super hesitant to remove the safety latch

Yes, that intercooler isn't that hard to fit. I got it done in one night (although I did plan it out a bit). You can get it to fit "level" across that opening while still retaining the safety latch. As Phil recalled (thanks!) you can just bend the safety in toward the engine bay and it will clear. Also, you can flip the cross member thing that sits below the intercooler. Flip it upside down and you won't have to get rid of it! For side-to-side clearance I got some cast 90 degree aluminum elbows, although silicone will do the same trick. I just didn't want any silicone in my charge path.

What's a normal post turbo EGT reading? I've never actually had an EGT and now that I do I'd like to make sure I know what the hell it means. Lol

I have no relevant info on gassers, on the diesel I'd see 800f pre turbo and up to 1400f but only towing and pushing it...you need to know what your turbo is rated for as a sustained temp. Then find the formula to figure out preturbo temps, at least that's my understanding...gas maybe totally diffrent.

Where is the probe at? pre or post turbo?
Mine, before it broke, would see 500-600C post turbo. It's been a while since it worked but I don't remember it getting to 700.


There is about a 500 horsepower gap between mine and yours, so I don't know if that's an apples to apples comparison.

I have mine on runner 5 and I saw 845°C-865°C on extended top gear pulls... but this is pre turbo... and obviously that cylinder is now dead... booooo

From memory, sustained temps of 900°C are bad news bears.


EDIT: come to think of it, that number may have more to do with damaging a catalytic converter. Can't remember if you have one or not...

I wonder as you get your tune buttoned down that those temps stay around there… if so I think that is pretty acceptable at WOT.

Mounts feel great so far. I've only put ~100 miles on them or so. I'll have to check and make sure they're still in tact . The Tilton engages pretty firmly.

Thanks Josh! Yours will be there very soon! I went with Jared's 80 duro mounts and they are very good. There is noticeably more vibration over my broken street density 034 mounts but it's certainly acceptable.

I am honestly not 100% certain on the fine details of what was done to make things right. Jeff said it wouldn't leave his shop until he was 100% certain it was good. I believe he modified the cam nose though with what he calls pecker marks which will bite into the cam gear.
