Yeah man, your turbo spooled around 4k 3rd on my car.

The best boost control I have found to this date is a mini pressure regulator on the top port of the WG. You can adjust on the fly and it is rock solid. I do still have a WGFV plumbed in to bypass it though for things like my track tune, and WI failsafe.

Thanks for the help guys! I will play around with it and see what I can come up with.

bradyzq wrote:I would suggest running open loop boost control until you gather all the data to fill up your refDC table.

Make sure your boost cut is set to something reasonable.

Do a pull with the boost DC set at a flat 10%. Note what the boost is.

Repeat with 15, 20, 25, etc.

You will be able to build a really good refDC table this way, and you won't have to worry about PID control oscillations.

This is exactly what I did. I set refDC to just slightly under boost so that I could make it up with PID. I was ready to start tuning PID but then it snowed... And hasn't stopped! lol

Good luck tuning the PID without a good understanding of it, especially if it is your first time. I made some kind of DIY at one point, but I've never been able to find it again. When I do, I'll post it up! Feel free to ask any questions in the meantime.

By the way, my PID settings are likely not going to be useful on the latest firmwares. They changed it up at some point.

I've been discovering that. LOL I haven't made it back out to play since Wednesday so maybe I will get some time on Sunday. Plan for this weekend is to read up and gather some more understanding of the system. :)

So, little update. I've been still working on my tune but have been running into some troubles. I STILL can't get it to build strong boost before 5000 which is frustrating. Short of completely blocking off the BOV, I'm not sure what else could be causing it. I have ruled out the WG for sure, so that pretty much leaves the BOV... I think? Also, (this started today) I'm dropping a cylinder and popping through the exhaust once full boost hits. I'm betting that it's just the plugs at this point because I'm still running the ones I had during BBQ. :shame: Anyways, if you guys' wouldn't mind taking a peek at this log, I'm open to more suggestions. :)

That is messed. That is heeeuuuuge lag. What did you do recently, anything with the cams? Could they be off a tooth?

And yeah that boost jumps around like crazy, it absolutely should not be like that. What does a pressure test show? No leaks? One thing is that you do have PID enabled... you want to set "boostcontrol pid integral limit" in the boost control -> PID page to 0. That way you'll be using n75 DC only to control boost.

You're sure your n75 is working? did you try swapping it out? Could even be a leak there... if stock/original (ie. old) the nipples break all the time.

Ya, I know it's super laggy. In that log I show PID with numbers, I was just trying different things to get boost to ramp up a bit faster. Even with 'P' set to zero, I still have some serious lag issues. I looked back at my Holset logs and it ramped up basicly the same way. I've checked the N75 and the WG, both are working properly. I even went so far as to completely disconnect the WG vacuum lines and boost STILL ramped up the same way. So, that pretty much just leaves the BOV as the problem. I've decided after I finish paying off some stuff that is already installed on the car I will pick up a Tial Q BOV.

Maybe its those 10 extra valves causing boost issues. I vote for a 20v swap

If you pressure test the intake to 30 psi or so you will very quickly be able to rule out a BOV or other boost leak.

It could be a plugged up exhaust, or maybe cam timing is off. I would not assume it is a BOV.

You had the head off, right? Did you touch it? And when did you install the cams?

Ya, head came off. I installed the cams before BBQ last year and it was the same on the stock cam. I know for a fact my timing was zero'd out before BBQ (Marc checked it with me through VEMS). Once I smoke test the beast I will know more. I just need to finish diagnosing whether or not a charge pipe leak is the cause. The only thing that has not changed through this whole process is the BOV and AWIC.

Thanks guys! Alrighty, so as for an update, as some of you have already heard I scored a job down in Vegas. The first day on the job is May 5th so things have been pretty crazy around here prepping for the big move. I'm going to be working at Cars NV (carsnv.com). It's a pretty nice shop, they specialize in german stuff (specifically Audis). They are also a certified GIAC tuning facility which is really cool, so I'm sure I will have my chance to play with that stuff. It's going to be a pretty major life change for me as I have only ever lived in Union County here in Oregon and I'm not going to lie, I'm a tad nervous. This is like Audi country bumpkin meets Vegas. LOL

The main reason for the change is I'm trying to gain some traction in the Audi world in terms of becoming a super high quality tech and because of where I live I don't get to see that many of them. Along with that, I made the choice a few years ago to pursue my dreams rather than becoming the accountant that I went to school for; my dream being that I want to work on, build and tune Audi/Porsche stuff. What is not dream is fixing farm trucks, box vans and Hondas with the occasional smattering of German goodness. So with that said, I think this is a good opportunity to start down that path.

As for Oceanic, it will be getting some love once things settle down. Things like E85, window tint (Read: NO A/C), cooling system attention and paint, but this stuff is going to happen later down the road. I have to say the people on this board have always been a source of inspiration for me which has really translated into some major life changes. Anyways, I will (as always) try to keep things updated. :D

Thank you guys!

That is pretty funny Jim. :)

Darin, yessir I will be there. ;) And Cherry is all for it! Infact, she is really excited because we will be closer to her family so that's good and it's a really good location for the degree she has. La Grande doesn't offer much for a Bio-Chem degree lol. We actually technically will be living in Henderson and it's about a 15 minute drive from downtown from our new place. I think the hardest part is going to be the weather honestly, it was snowing here this morning and Vegas is most likely in the 90's right now.
