Grand Nationals are like old Fords. You could get them in any color as long as it's black. :) T-Type Regals could be had in white or silver, though. For some reason, I have never seen a T-Type come through our shop, just an endless parade of Darth Vader cars, like a Star Wars convention mated with a Buick factory or something. They even make sort of the same wheezing noises :)

I think we're up to 1100hp on a stock block (upgraded rotating assembly) and I know we've had a Stage II-blocked engine run something like 1200whp, but at that point you really can't put a trans behind that, or get any useful traction...

Anyone want to start a pool on how long before Hank puts cams in his car?

I will probably go solid lifter in the near future, but the cams are still too expensive for my blood.

My next upgrade will be .4L more displacement. I want to move the powerband down 600rpm, and still rev to 8500.

1300 for the pair isn't horrible. Maybe some cams are in my future. Did you do cats in the end Janis? I am going to put together a 2.6L over the summer and then look at cams.

You have to realize that 50% or better of the build is wrapped up in the actual build. I like to drive them, don't get me wrong, but I would say 50% is wrapped up in figuring out the solutions and pushing limits. The other 30 is for driving, and 10% a piece to both other peoples enjoyment and 10% for marketing exposure. I doubt this car will ever be finished, nor will it ever be a garage king. The only way this car is going to rest is if I put it into a wall hard enough, and even then I would probably tube the offended size/half and make a shorty out of it. :)

Or if he is put in jail for traffic violations and by the time he gets out he is too old to drive. A shame because the car is fun to drive. I find myself missing it. Thanks again for that by the way.

hank as is does your head have any flow work done to it?

i thought i remembered you saying that the valve sizes and porting were stock. if so you basically have shown 600+ wheel on an upgraded hardware but stock head is possible.

cant wait to see what you can do with a 2.6L.

My engine configuration at the moment is the following..

73k mile AAN block
AAN windage tray
ARP Main bolts
73K miles main bearings
73k mile rod bearings
DM Forged connecting rods with arp 2000 rod bolts
Stock pistons( I skimmed the tops of them to get a .040 piston to head clearance.. stock is .034)
ARP head studs
Rebuilt 40k miles ago 7a head with 240k mile valves, but otherwise stock ports, decked .025 to raise compression
Supertech valve springs
7a cams
Cam Gear at 4 degrees retarded.

Free flowing manifolds and a big turbo with fuel to match!

Yea so is that gonna happen? I can't get ahold of the organizer for like 3 months now. Wondering if we are going to have to institue 'plan b'...

I have been considering the possibality of 'plan b' even though I was really excited about Vail during Oktoberfest. I have not booked anything.

We maybe should work on a plan B in Park city should the Vail gig break down. We had 8 verbals for battleborn in CO and only Brandon made the trip. That is sad....

I should have my new motor in by then and maybe even a different turbo. Unfortunately, I don't think I will make any more power without getting fancy cams. Probably out of the budget for now.

Nothing much has been going on with the URQ. I have been daily driving it since Spring Mtn. Shoot, I have not as much as opened the hood to check fluid levels. I need a rear right ball joint in a bad way. Hopefully my favorite source for NLA audi URQ parts will come through with a win soon!! Despite the constant rip of 034 on the Quattrolist, 034 is continuing to remanufacture NLA parts. Kudos to them.

I still regret not making it to B.B.Q.! Oh well, the trip to UT is easier and we have family there as well (I have my 30th in OCT as get out of jail card :D ).

IIRC B.Rock talks to Peter, we could try and have him get the 411.

Anyway, great to hear that the urQ is running well!

I put 325 miles on the Blue Pill this weekend. I figured the cool weather in Vegas is coming to an end. One of my Audi buds is also active with the Mini crowd so Saturday I ran up to Mt Charleston with a couple hundred mini's. There were a ton of people up there along the route that were amazed at all the MIni's - but believe it or not, I got thumbs-up, double-takes, and even heard one cheer out for the quattro! I had to laugh - but you need to see that reaction every once in a while to make the chore of owning one worth it. Of course they were all rewarded with the aural pleasure of a turbo spool up and a dump valve go to atmosphere.

Sunday I headed south over the hump to Pahrump, took a left towards Tecopa and traced that route we took a few years back on the Death Valley run. I went as far as Shoshone and picked up some lotto tix and an ice cream sandwich and then ran the route backwards. It was pretty mild mannered on the way out, but on the way back this biker on some monstrous dual-sport ran interference for me. The 20v with the short gears runs out pretty comfy at 85, it's probably best I don't have a tach to look at.

Getting the UrQ out of town and using the power and the suspension a bit really re-calibrated my enjoyment of the car. Its great to jump in it and drive it back and forth to work but its almost a task to do so. Im SO happy with how the suspension turned out I wish I lived where I could utilize it more often.

I don't want to hijack their event, but Im on board with making sure something is going on somewhere that weekend since many people have planned on something.

My wife asked me just the other day what the Audi plans were. I had to tell her not anything that I knew of. We need to come up with something soon since I could already see the wheels turning in her expression as to what she could do with that extra vacation time. LOL I was looking forward to Colorado again.

Hopefully my favorite source for NLA audi URQ parts will come through with a win soon!!

The ball joints from Rockauto came the other day......wrong ones. :frustrated: I was all excited when I saw that someone on the other thread received the right ones for at least one side. NOTTTTTTTTTTT!!

Sean, that is good to hear. Driving the URQ is rewarding. It isn't to say mine isn't a chore to drive as well. Every thumbs up is worth it.

Those rotten no goods Dad!!! I was hoping you would get new ones so I could try one of your old ones to see if that was indeed the problem. It is getting pretty bad at this point. It is almost to the point of pulling the car off the road in fear of loosing one and dropping a wheel. That is about the last thing I need in life!!!
