could be worse, at least there are 4 01E's just sitting at the shop waiting... We each have one to put in our cars and one to use as a back up...

You know you have hit the 450 whp club if you can strip the teeth off an 016 second gear :)

Heck I have NOWHERE NEAR 450 whp - not even close to 450 CHP and I stripped 2nd.... I guess I do abuse it tho...

I don't know if I'd wait until end of Set to fix it Hank - I'd hate for a snafu to put your car out of commission for the big event...

My tranny replacement job#2 should happen within 2 weeks.

This is true...... but I've gone for a ride with Hank and he is not exactly nice to his 016..... :D :D :D

Nah seriously, if you plan to shift hard and drive the car hard like most of us do, you need a more robust trans. Hank and I are very similar in how we drive. So I would say Hank definitely needs the 01E. And I would say the same thing for anyone else as well.

I am starting to gather parts to put one of these 01e's I have at the shop. I made up some transmission mounts that are slotted to soak up the 15mm's of difference in transmission lengths between the 016 and the 01e. It will be nice to get another 5/8ths of room up front. I will probably try to slot everything in the rear subframe later to get everything back another 1/2 inch or so, or within the range of the center bearing support. Eventually, I want to put hte urs4 rear diff in the car, and go to a one piece DS, so I probably will just slide back the engine the 15mm to begin with. I may throw in some 034 slotted aluminum subframe mounts too to get some free castor. The mounts will allow for that much movement though..

Anywho here are some pictures. I think I am going to swap over everything next week. The second set is for Dave's S2 that is getting an 01e soon.

b5 s4 linkage right? Did you cut and flop the linkage or use as is?

yes b5 s4 linkage, cut and flop, to use the b3/b4 shifter anyway
the b3/4 linkage doesnt even use the extra stabilizer rod that the b5 s4 uses.

im looking to integrate the b5 s4 linkage AND shifter box into my car so i can use the extra stab. bar as well.

interesting. I'll give it a shot.

Still several other items to work out: how to deal with the difference in length (setback of engine or spacer for the driveshaft) and axle stuff.

Hardly bolt in. it can be modified, but everything about it is different, from the cross over pivot to the actual selector arm(set screw in 016 apps, and a wedge in 01e apps) to the mounting of the pivot arm.. It can be made to work though with some basic fab tools like welders :)

I have machined spacers to take up the 15mm Marc, but I would just use the slot of the mount to scoot everything back 15mm and end up with more room up front. Anybody putting an 01e in a type 85 probably longs for more IC space ;)

I have about 10 half shafts at the shop right now, and a bunch more demensions on paper. i hope to find somethign that works this weekend.
