No thread yet.....just getting going. I'd love to copy Martin and put it in a nice B4 90, but haven't been able to stumble across a good candidate. My thoughts are that being I have the His and Her Urqs, I would keep it the same theme and put it into a front drive Coupe GT that I've had for awhile. It's not my first choice, but a 2600lb car with a stock AEL at 140hp sounds like a fun and decent commuter. The gearbox above is a FWD 6spd O1E TDI box that should produce decent MPG. I love driving the Urq to work, but don't like putting 80 miles a day on it. I want something that is economical, different, and fun all in the same package. The donor came out of a 97 A6 with 81000Km on the clock and came with the harness and ECU. The chips are socketed and there are chips readily available to bring the stock 140hp up to around 170hp before needing more turbo. I'm shooting for just getting it running to begin with.

Awesome! My brother has talked about wanting to tdi his coupe gt with the 5 cyl. I think it would make a GREAT driver/commuter. Much in the same vein as a corrado does. Cept that tdi I5 has way more awesome! (and power potential)

When can we expect to hear it run? ;-)

Diesel exhaust AND RUBBER! Great thing about the 01E are the readily available LSD's. ;-)

Europe...Latvia Tell me about the LSD's that are available. One thing about the FWD TDI box is that they aren't 3:89, but rather 3:80 or something odd....a little taller.

Hey, if I had a scorpion to be working on I wouldn't have the time to be reading the diesel threads, but well, I don't have one you know. :wink: Come to think of it a mid engined, 1.9 TDI powered scorpion would be sweet! It would probably get 60+ mpg and still squeal the tires down to cord.

Micah, I think those rods look like a great deal, but I'm pretty sure you just like them because they are made out of forged aircraft 4340 steel. :wink: It looks as if the slippery slope exists in the diesel world too. Yea I might have a His and a Hers, but the His looks pretty sad and broken, which is what all the above comments are about. :slap:



Diesel Scorpion? I think your getting obssessed now. If anything non-Italian ends up in there it'd be a fwd Honda set-up. Now, if Hank has a Frankendeisel set up for a full size Cherokee I could turn to kerosene corruption.

Already put heavy duty springs in anticipation (but may still go a little taller). 6BT isn't all that much heavier though. The 1FZ-FE is a pretty honkin motor. The LS(x) motors are lighter than the 1FZ-FE and the 6BT ends up being similar to a the extra weight a big bumper and winch would add to an other wise stock FZJ80.
If i was set on a modern V8 the 4.7 fits well enough. (But i'd be unhappy as i'd really want the 5.7)
So just a turbo'ed 1FZ-FE is the only real alternative for me to the 6BT.

Been a bit since i've updated. Not much to add.
Replaced the serp. tensioner with a Gates part for the Ford 302 motor. All metal and larger bearing, available off the shelf from Slow Reilly's so easy to replace and acquire if ever needs be done again.
Added extra running lights to the tails by wiring in the hatch lenses.

Deleted more trim/interior, as well as more sound deadening. (Still lots asphalt mat left in the car didn't go all the way....yet!)
Deleted rear wiper, and stereo and all wiring.
Spaced the wheels a little in anticipation of new wheel flares and taller running gear, not super excited about larger spacers and the added rotating weight but oh well. The car really needs stiffer springs in the rear. Front with "vr6" spec'ed are okay. Here is a little test fitting of flares with the proposed wheel and running gear without spacers:

Other notes, water pump is done. Looks like the stress of the new belt setup for power steering delete got to it.
Getting right around 50 mpg every tank for all in town driving.
So planning on water pump and increased oil/water heat exchanger on possibly in the next couple days.

Used an old new G60 H20 pump i had laying around. Needed a port plugged but otherwise fits just fine on the 1Z housing!
Tired of paying to have alignments done, decided to figure out how to get it done on a lowered car in the driveway. Ended up with three flats in two weeks on the old running gear forcing me to start the work to make the taller running gear work. I am using the CTN code 02A box with the low R&P, but have been hamstrung due to the smaller rolling diameter of the corrado. I'd already up sized with the last setup that required a little work to make clear everything and they were 205/40-17's. What i wanted to run is the ever so common 225/44-17 size. Well i'm there now. Not done but they are on and it's on the road. I have to finish the rear still.

Thanks, guys. Like most things about the car, it sounds better on the internets, looks better in pictures.....it really is a ratty car. The flares i had laid up by a small company/guy who makes products for miata. The shape is actually a flare they make for the miata. They don't normally make Kevlar, but he was willing to put them together for me at my request.
