It seams that everyone and their grandma is doing an SQ conversion of some sorts. This one is no different. Sort of similar to the highoctane guys, however our kit is in Carbon Fibre and from a different source.
Here is the progress so far.
The car stripping day, engine was first to go, not sure why Mr Hopton is so happy.
OK, engine is out, now what??
This will be fun to fix, NOT
Car flipping day, now I can start cleaning the bottom side. doh!
Beautiful Georgia rust free floors..
Big thanks to Mike H and Craig C (highlander) for their help so far!
Mr Cook himself is doing the same project here

And Mr Hopton has joined us as well.

Time to revive this thread.
Now that the '84 and the TDI are done, time to move ahead with the once abandoned project.
If you remember, this is how the kit arrived home..
Wow.. long time ago I could actually see the walls and the floor of my basement.
This is the damage we had to deal with in the beginning.
Cut out corner
And the chunk of an Ur on the floor.
New piece tacked on.
Out in the sun to check out some gaps etc.
Princess Auto has these great engine stands, that just happen to fit Audi subframe and allow me to roll the car around without wheels..
But, we were not happy with the repair, the other side had issues as well.. so decision was made to use my old 4000 as a donor for the entire front clip. I have not decided exactly how far it will extend, however feeling is that it will go the entire distance till the 320mm cut line. It will make a stronger base. So.. forward 3 years to last weekend and here are the results.
With help of Mr Cook and my brother in law we cut the 4kq and slid it into the garage.
So more cleaning and cutting and deskinning of the roof etc. etc...
Not to mention decluttering the other side..
Hopefully the next update is not going to be 3 years from now!

So... as per Craig I did another 10min of work...
Deskinned the roof.
Cleaned pass side tar.
And removed pass side outer rocker.
Some issues on the bottom of the A-pillar, the sunroof drain was pushed back into the pillar and all the slaty water did damage to the bottom door hinge and obviously bottom the pillar itself.
Next I'll be moving onto the driver side, just need to find another spare 20min
22/01/2012
Got another 20min to spare..
Started taking stuff off the ur-q this time..
Incredable, Georgia car, coupld not see it from the outside, yet corrosion in the seam.. only up front.
Back end looknig a bit more naked.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... still need to pull all the crap out of the inside (temporary storage)
Here are the cut off parts.
All the yellow stuff is wax overload... someone at the factory must have fallen asleep.. it was couple of mm thick.
More next weekend.
15/02/2012
I was supposed to finish the jig last weekend, but I ran out of gas (welding)
So.. picked up a new bottle today and this evening finished up what I started.
Craig thinks it's a bit of an overkill, but I like it.
These Princess Auto engine stands are just great... will keep both subframes nice and square WRT each other.
This weekend hope to get some help and cut the front portion off.
19/02/2012
Another productive day.
After pickin up another 90 quattro for my wife (also white), Mr Cook dropped by and gave me a hand with THE CUT.
Here is the result..
Subframe waiting for the other half.
Then just slide it 320mm into place..
Here is the left over floor section (already spoken for) hiding behind the body.
And while I had extra hands, we flipped the 4kq section so I can yet again clean the undercoating from yet another floor... boundless joy!! :frustrated:
Still plenty to go.
13/03/2012
Not as much of an update as Mr Cooks but, got couple of spare minutes and cleaned 1/2 of the floor.
Each time I do this I don't wish it on my worse enemy. :frustrated:
As you can see I didn't clean it all the way to the back, that portion will be cut away anyway.
Couple of pin holes here and there... not as nice as the original Georgia Ur-q floor... oh well.
Overall not bad for a Canadian winter beater...
Hope to get couple of hours on the weekend and do the other side.. then it's fliparoo time to remove the other rocker.
Lots to go.

Few things showed up today, curtesy of the Polish connection.
The one on the right is the factory street part.
Incredable attention to detail.
Rear piece that will engage the sport struts I have
He sent me instructions to drill the subframe out to 12mm... rally cars used M12 hardware, learn something new everyday.
Also got these...
The lower one I did not have at all and the middle one from factory is steel and for street car.
Detail of the welds.
Tomorrow back to cleaning the damn floor.. :frustrated:
07/04/2012
Another productive day, got a chance to clean the other side of the floor and one of the wheewells.
Now I need Mr Cook or Mr Hopton to help me flip it back onto the jig...
As well bunch of goodies showed up last week... the rear inner fenders, that will be great help.
Hope to have the B-pillar on the driver side moved back 320mm by the end of the weekend.
Yet more productivity... deskinned the the roof tonight.. look what I found under the C-pillar skin.. Craig, did your Coupe GT have this..
09/04/2012
Another update... moved the B-pillar back and tried the fender on.
Lines up over here pretty good
And back here as well.
Inner view of the position that the fender dictates, approx 310mm, not quite 320.. not sure why.
Detail of the gap between the B-pillar and the wheelwell sheetmetal.
So for now I will just tack the B-pillar in place and wait for the rest of the stuff to do the final welding.
06/05/2012
Another productive weekend.
Removed the other 4kq rocker and both B-pillars
More fettling with the B-pillar position and using the SQ additonal parts (in black).
The other B-pillar detached and moved.
Those two black lines go through couple of dimples, that is 320mm..
Arial view of stock length of both 4kq and Ur-q floor pieces.
260mm cut out to make some room to work with... getting closer!
More to come as time allows.
Next on the agenda is drilling all the spot welds on the remaining Ur-q floor and working on the 2-door roof.
26/05/2012
Productive morning again, all the spot welds on the C-pillar are now drilled out.. doh!
The rear fender fits much better now with the sheetmetal removed.
This is what it looks like under the trim piece if you were wondering.
14/06/2012
Another productive evening last night, kids were out with mom so I had a bit of peace and quiet.
Prepared the roof for the joining of the two halves.
Removed the A-pillars, part of the C and roughly deskinned the roof.
I was going to get the spot welds seperated as well but broke two drill bit trying... doh!
I can almost smell it!
This is the portion of the original Ur-q roof that needs to be removed.
Two ridges in the roof frame up front is where the actual cut and welding will take place.
This way I don't have to bother the bottom of the A-pillar and cowling, which is probably a lot more pita.
Hope to have Mr Cook one evening next week (can you make it Wednesday) to help me align the chassis and throw few tack welds.
Then Mr Hopton can have the jig and cut his..
04/08/2012
Always wanting to be different I ordered the last kit for myself in Carbon Kevlar hybrid, just like the works cars.
Also the rear bumper mold is done and parts look awesome!
The only parts missing now are the Hood and the Grill, woohoo...
As soon as the tdi is back on the road the Sport project will be resuming.
08/09/2012
Very productive day even though one plonker did not show up to help.. I guess he does not need the jig as much as he claims.. :slap:
set the jig to 320mm short and let it cook for 12 hours, nope, that's not it..
Anyhoo, put the drivers door, fender and the roof to make sure it all fits.
Door gap, not bad.
And this is how the floor looks at 320mm.
Roof is good at the back as well
And this is why the C-pillar needs so much altering, standard Coupe position.
And another shot from the other side.
While I still had the energy and the drive I did the other side as well just to make sure.
Next is the roof section, for that I do need an extra pair of hands.
11/09/2012
No problem, you can probably have the jig this weekend.
Mr Cook dropped by for an hour or so this evening... we have some more progress.
The roof section is ON... I was worried about the B-pillar cut, somehow I got it just right.
The door gap is spot on!
Even on the other side!
Temporary measure to keep both sides on without welding.. both sides will still ahve to coma apart for proper joint section cleaning etc. etc.
Mr Cook was not amused.
I am so happy, the project is taking shape and I love it.
More to some.
15/09/2012
Another productive evening... tried the CF roof skin with the 2-door roof in place.
Looks good, only part I took off previously that needs to go back on.
Also cut the C-pillar and split it to match the roof.
Looks good on the pass side.
And the drivers side.
Looking more and more like a proper thing.
Tomorrow Mr Hopton will be taking the jig away, but at least I have everything marked now so I can start cleaning and preparing for welding.
22/02/2013
FYI this month marks 5 years since the project was started.
It has been interrupted few times with other happenings, kids/family, projects ('84 and tdi).
But in between we found a way to forge forward. Not only that Mike and Craig have also decided to build their own cars, so this means sharing of resources.
I am hoping to have the chassis and roll cage completed this spring and start assembling the beast.
In the beggining I gave myself a timeline of 8 years, with Mike and Craig's moral support I feel confident this can be achieved.
Thanks for all the support from the community!

To shock us now you'd almost have to find an aluminum block for your sport.
