Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
Yes Myke. It is a reasonable question. Thing is, at idle, it is not as bad as 3k... I abuse the motor a bit and get it to put out hte usual lifter symphony. I think a couple of them are just bum lifters at this point. Either that or 034 casted a spell on my motor knowing I promised myself I would put a new cam gear on it next time the head came off!
I know that drag guys use them all the time, but I do not ever see them on road cars at all. I see 1200 out of the turbo all the time, which is right at aluminums Melting temp depending on the grade. At the bottom of the dp, the wideband see's 800 at WOT, and that is the gas stream. It will start to get soft around 1000C, and I think it would have to be a texas mile type situation to even dream of being a problem down there.
The interesting thing with the new setup, the exhaust itself is very cool when compared to the old steel setup, but the exhaust tips get pretty toasty after running hard. The aluminum absorbs a tremendous amount of heat.

Has anybody had them be bad nearly out of the bag? I am stumped. I will probably swap them out for my old lifters to see if that solves it...
I had 2 or 3 bad out of my initial 20 (also lightweight). Replaced them and everything was fine.

WHAT?!! Is this a common occurance with the LW vag lifters?

HTA 35r plus e85 plus 26psi is fun!!!! I am getting a misfire up there though, and I am thinking it is ignition related.
Mine took forever to quite down. BTW, I hate you and your E85.

uhhh... 4kq axles are just not going to hack it in the rear.... I'll load a picture tomarrow, but they are a little twisty.
I am getting a bad miss at 24psi though. It is only boost sensitive, as the trigger is rock solid to 8500. I changed plugs, upped the dwell as much as I could ( about 80% Duty Cycle, dunno if that is safe or not), and looked extensively at timing to make sure it wasnt a bad miss. I wish I had a new set of coils on hand to check. I'll have to see what the resistance is on them. WHat is the resistance suppose to be?
I love torsen with locked rears, and a fast rack. It is nice to be able to shift mid slide with out having to have a second hand on the wheel.

Isn't that just the best? You can get some nice powerslides with that setup. Miss it so much!

ShavedQuattro wrote:Nothing special. The 4kq rear diff is back there with the 4kq rear axles. The shaft does not look any different from the URQ Shafts, but the CV's are obviously smaller.
That is the part that makes me scratch my head. I had always thought that you just swapped out the diff flanges from 4k to the larger UrQ / 5k like when you do the tranny swap. Then you continue to run the original axle / CV combination...
So, I guess Im now wondering what is under my car since it has 4:11's...

I am thinking perhaps a torsen rear would be more friendly on half shafts..
