Orrrrrrr...if it's too loud, I'll take it.
Have you got it running again yet? You could probably get it there, but you would loose points eith the wife if it turned into one of those Iroz fix as you go marathons and that's what wouldn't be worth it. Good luck and let me know. I have till Friday off work to come on a rescue mission if you need it, but if I take time away from the Mars cars I would want an aluminum part of my choice from your dead car.

hahaha.... wonder which part that'll be? IM or exhaust? radiator? guess it may depend on how "dead" is dead, huh.... Hank, the 6061 exhaust sounds like a cool idea but is it going to withstand the temps, especially up front?
It's light, but I think that's going to be really loud. And for me, I wouldn't mind even quieter exhaust than what I have now....remember, no turbo here to muffle it. I am curious to hear it though...get some videos up when it's running.

Hank, Im going to share some words of inspiration, copied from the days / hours leading up to UrQ 25 when I myself wasn't sure if I was actually going to make the trip.
Somewhere around page 8 of my project thread:
We have faith in you Sean!
Insert cheesy " You can do it!"
Sean, you have given me hope. I figure if you can come up with enough magic to get there, I ought to at least try.
I know..."YOU con duit"
You can du eet!!
Common SEAN!!!!!!! Caravan with my car!!!!!
Woooooohoooo!!!!!
Lookin' good. Have fun at URQ25!
So c'mon Hank, this isn't the biggest hurdle you have had in front of you with this car... Im going to be in NorCal this weekend with friends. If I can break away I'd like to see this thing put a whoopin' on the 034 dyno.

I too hope it works out well for you.I hope it does Smile By the time I am to the downpipe, we are talking 800 degrees or less, at that is at WOT. Once it gets hot that initial time, it will oxidize and that oxide layer is VERY hard and deals with heat nicely. We will see, wont we Wink If I had a NA car that only saw 900 degrees at the header and 500 at the downpipe, you better believe I would run an aluminum exhaust. Why not?
I would use it too, if it works. I was worried about the noise on an NA car looking at how small your mufflers are, that was my concern. At some point you may start exceeding decibel limits on some tracks and they will ban you from running. I've never measured mine but it is loud as-is.
if you get into trouble at a track , jsut use a turndown tip, tons of porsche guys use them when they get their ex sound measured, as it allows the exhaust sound to not be going straight into the metering device

The weekend went great in California..... in the G35. I got the car running, and drove it a bit, but it was getting late (4 in the morning) and I had to be at 034's at 2 the next day. That left 1 hour for sleep. I opted to not take the URQ, as I was the one to supply all the turbo's to Jim for his comparo of billet turbos. I did not want to waste his time, 034's or my own by breaking down halfway there. Even if it was fixable, 2 hours down would have sunk our little test. So I ran out there in the Infiniti, and it was a smart move. I ended up being short 1 day of making it happen, but what can you do.
So I am back now working on some projects, and playing with the urq on the side. I used a head with 700 miles on the rebuild including lightweight lifters. There seems to be a huge clamor of clank coming from that area. Has anybody had them be bad nearly out of the bag? I am stumped. I will probably swap them out for my old lifters to see if that solves it.
I love the exhaust. It is a tad louder than before, but much more responsive, deeper, and light to boot. I would be surprised if anybody got kicked off a track with this exhaust. Here is a vid, and the lifter tick is there as well.

Columbia Mandrel bending. It is cheaper when compared to a stainless exhaust. The mufflers are the hard part, as they are not available anywhere, but I am on my way to producing that as well.
Peter, remember that Aluminum is more of a natural dampening material than any steel. Noise gets surpressed usually by cooling the expanding gas. Think silencers on guns. Aluminum does a great job of absorbing heat and vibration. Go take a 10 foot length of stainless and aluminum, hold it to your ear and tap them with a hammer.
All I know is that my old exhaust set off a certain car alarm in the neighborhood everytime, and I passed the test today of not setting it off.
