thanks :) if only there were lots of customers willing to pay for the conversion to be done.


i was asked what paint i used in the engine bay, so here it is.

i found two colors for spray painting things in my car. the engine bay paint is a little more gold than the exterior due to the heat and such. here's what i used..

duplicolor paints

desert sand mica #8801610 for the stuff to match the exterior (it's still just a touch off the factory zermatt tho)

and

sunlit sand #8800593 for the stuff in the engine bay

and i just spray a bit of duplicolor's 500F clear paint over what i spray.

painted it up and mounted it in place with some more coupling nuts off the firewall.

Looking good, for future I would recommend going with S2 3B harness... they replace the driver side engine harness as well and fit the smaller chassis much better... not to mention the cool brackets you get with it.

You can pick one up in Germany for about 100 Euro.

cool, thanks for the info :) i think what i've got is gonna work fine though.



ok, the biggest break of the week here. i'm putting in a 20v 200 transmission which has the electronic pickup for the speedo... so when i pulled the speedo sensor out thinking it read the toothed gear down inside, i found it didn't :( then i started looking at the way it sat inside the tranny when i had the axle drive cup out.... hmm, looked at the old 4kq 016... hmm. so out came axle seals and BAM the speedo ring thingies interchange!!! :woowoo: the hole in the 200 trans is even threaded for the old style insert 8)

sweet, so is this car getting the prettied up 3b in your sig? whats goin on with the white 4k that always looks so hott? is that the one getting the v8?

Yep, it's a beauty.. and you don't have to thread the sensor hole either.. nice touch from Audi.

On a related note, I used a 90q electro/vacuum actuation of the read diff and used a Euro Ur-q turn signal stalk check function to turn the diff on/off.
You will find a locked rear diff with torsen centre and 3B most enjoyable.
You can do some nice Colin McRae powerslides, right Craig?

yup, this car's getting the 3B... you didn't read any of the first pages did you? :D

the white car is looking rather plain right now. it has a stock suspension holding it up and the original 14" ronal wheels :P but yeah, i'll be getting a v8 here after this 3B swap is done 8)

Jeeze, we're all getting impatient! If Derek takes more than 3 days to complete a swap, out attention shifts to his next project. Don't wory guys. You don't want him to ruin the ending to a perfectly good story. I suggest we get through the 3b chapter for right now.

sweet, that's what i had planned 8) i grabbed the diff actuator box out of my donor 200 20v here along with the switch and harness. so i'll figure out a way to make that work nicely :)



and to PxTx, yeah...1 project at a time :P it's a lot of work and i'm not really even doing that much fab work on her, just mostly maintainence kinda stuff. i just got done rebuilding both front inner CV's so i won't have to touch them for about forever. the tranny drive flange seals just got here and i already installed them and put the flanges back in and the right side tranny mount arm has been swapped out so next i'm gonna go out and drop the front subframe again, set it around the trans and bolt it up, then raise the whole unit back up into the car so i can put the front axles back in, the driveshaft (after i put the new center support in of course), and then work on getting the suspension back in and put the car back on the ground where she belongs :P

Thats funny, I just bought one of the non-geared type speed sensors for my 93 S4. Went to pull off the electrical connector when applying heat to the oil fill plug to get the damn thing out.. and the sensor came apart in two pieces :frustrated: (PO had it held together with RTV).

Pleasant surprise that the sender was only $20 from the dealer :woowoo:

Aight, now I want details on what sort of signal that sensor puts out, and what the teeth on that speedo 'gear' look like. I assume it's a VR of some sort?

progress was a bit slower today, but oh well, can't knock em' dead all the time :P

the transmission got put back together and mounted on the subframe..

the front axles are in place now too. the last thing i worked on this evening was my custom home brew suspension. i'm interested to see how it turns out :tard:

tomorrow my CV joint grease tubes are coming in the morning and i can get on with the driveshaft and center support, then bolt it up and the exhaust center section and probably bolt some suspension back on the front and get er' back on the ground again.

i know i wanted to stay somewhat OEM in appearances... but, these wheels are calling me :drool: :drool:

dang, those are not only the wrong bolt pattern, they are the WAY wrong offset, WAY too wade, and they are 18's... wrong in every aspect. i might as well try to put toyota camry rims on :P

He has the V8q wheels on the car now, so those are BBS mesh wheels. Nice ones at that...

not at this point. the springs i'm using have about the rates i'd like to have, but the issues is just getting the spring perches right :P

got the driveshaft rebuilt today and put in, hung the center exhaust section, and tore apart some of the engine.

ran into a little issue with the forward part of the bearing coming into contact with the stock dust shield on the driveshaft. so i just tapped it off and everything's peachy keen :)

then i got a little into the engine

and had fun with the stupid allen bolts that hold the lower end of the turbo return line :frustrated:
here's the remedy...
take a punch and make a groove in the side of the bolt head for the punch to rest in...

then angle the punch and hit in the "off" direction..

other than the allens, everything was pretty uneventful

hope to have the rest of the block apart tomorrow and give it to a friend for hot tanking. i found a nice surprise as well. the front snubber bolt hole bosses were at some point broken off, i'm guess when the car was in a front end wreck (evidence of sheetmetal work etc.) and some genious welded studs in there, one of which i broke off trying to remove not seeing it was welded in under the grease and gunk :tard: so oh well. i'll figure out something soon.
