Ok a little bit more progress.. I had to go to class tonight, and have a ton of school work to do, so the progress was somewhat slow today.. I did make my intake manifold, and it is pretty cool..

the only sucky part is that I have a broken arm on the ANN throttle body, and I need the connector for the ANN TPS.. If anybody has any leads on either one, PM me.. THanks
Ok, and then I jigged up the head to put the water jackets in the 7a head.. It took a bunch of time, and I think I am on the right track. Everything looks good, I just need to know the bore of the water hole. I think it should work awesome, and do the deed. It soaked up a bunch of time however, and I would recomend sending it to 034 to get it machined. for 200 bucks, it is a bargin.

anywho, thats all for now.. got some cool stainless bends in today, and some boots for my ripped cv... OH that reminded me...
Am I screwed with a ball joint that is bad for my 81 URQ? Is that the NLA one that is unobtainable?? Do people switch out the whole control arm with the 4ks? Man that sucks.. Boot kits arnt available? Or I guess I could go spherical... thoughts anybody?

Oh ps Quattro87... I Jeff Will be able to get in the garage.. But he would be able to do it a whole lot easier if there wasnt a POS TT posted up in there.......
LOL, and I am sure that jeff is long past the 20vt, not hta tthere is anything wrong with it!!!
Me and Jeff are goign to kick it, and I am going to put that guy to work!!! Jeff wanna fix my Dads TT so we can get it out of the garage!! I think my URQ is going to be running before that thing!
Hank

LOL, thanks Nate!!!! Im flat broke for now though for fancy stainless parts, andthat thing isnt happening on the mill!!!!... I dont know Why I am broke.. Nate do you?
The TPS conectors, I think I may hit you up on though..
Gotta get this thing dippin.. I think stock fuel lines and pump will have to sustain the 18 PSI on the gt30r for now unfortunatly..

The intake looks good Hank. Are you getting any sleep at all? Oh and I might add, you do need to eat! LOL I'm figuring that you will be on the road by the time I get home and I will have the room to find the TT. Did you just mill the holes small for now while waiting for someone to post the real dimentions? At any rate it looks like you have been busy.

How'd you weld the intake... TIG, or a MIG w/ aluminum wire? Just trying to get an idea of how people are doing them... Mine doesn't have to be pretty, just has to work.

Alot of people go with the swap, as it's easier, and cheaper in the long run.
Although I could have sworn that I'd seen some for sale from Blaufergnugen not long ago.

Ok small update, First of all, big thanks to the people that are helping me get this project done.. Tons of people(like Darin, Steve A., 034EFI in particular NATE and DAN) are sending parts for the cause, and going out of their way to help!!! That is why I like the Audi Community as much as I do...
Yesterday I had big dreams of getting atleast the downpipe fabbed out, and put in the car... but for that to happen, the engine had to go in. So I started in the morning trying otm ake that happen. I wasted like 4 hours trying to find a solution for the stupid powersteering pump, and how to make it work.. I thought that the 20v brackets(would work easily over to the 20v pumps.. Boy was I wrong. first of all, the pump on hte 20v sits really forward on the motor.. they are just enough the same to keep leading you on, so that you are deeper and deeper into the fab work, and still stuck with the same part!! LOL, In the end it worked out pretty good, and is super solid, with a sweet tensioner that I made on the mill out of aluminum. I may in the future make my own brackets, or go MR2 pump.. that has a lot of wisdom.... I think it will work for stage I purposes.
Ok, so I got that squared away, then finished my my water Manifold... I am a flippin retard.. I modified the ANN one to work, and it looked awesome.. cool.. I went to put the motor together yesterday, and the stupid manifold I made wouldnt go flush and was caught up on something.... I said to myself "no freaking way I did that.." Sure enough, I had put the freaking neck (picture a 3b setup.. kindof like that) was too high and was hitting.. Yep, so I had to figure that out, and I welded this time on a jig that I made, which warped it like mad.. SO then, I cut each runner, and rewelded it together in the corect location bolted to the head, and now it is strait, and there....
Ok, so I wrote those explaination because It was the little stuff that kept alot of progress from goign down yesterday.

I did get the Flywheel torqued and then I got the engine into the car... . WOOt woot. It went in super easily!! It was seriously 1 minute with the hoist to have it in position to put the bellhousing bolts on! It looks awesome.. Something about puting a built 20vt into an URQ that brings a smile to the face.. even at 4 in the morning. It looks like it was developed to be put into that car. I was giggling all night like a school girl every time I looked at it... I just got back from Church just now, and I couldnt help myself, I went over pooped the hood, didnt even latch it, just looked with one hand holding up the hood, and awed!! LOL, it is going to be good!! Oh and Justins 11.1 vids helped inspire me and kept me going!! THanks Justin!

At this point, I am needing to wire everything up, make my coil bracket, and figure out an oil cooler. I also need to do something with a fuel rail.. I am broke, and I think I am goign to use an ANN for now to get it running. If anybody has one, or has a lead that they would sell for cheap, let me know. I only consider that becuase I am using the ANN manifold, and it would be cake to use it for now.. I have an 034 20v rail tha is BRAND new with brackets that I would trade for a 20v 034 version..
oh, and not to turn my post into a wanted ads section, but I need the steering rack boot that seperates the cabin from the engine bay. If anybody has a decent one, send me a PM.
Questions, comments? Requests?

yep.. that will happen soon enough...
Well the problem with the 20v pump is that they are higher pressure pumps, that dont like hte earilier steering racks.. This is just from what I remember, but I think there is an interference issue... It will definatly work untill I am in SLC and we will take a look at it.. I hope to get it cranked over this weekend!!! it is going to be tight to get it to SLC in 3 weeks!!!!

whatever you do, don't use a newer pump with your rack... you'll blow the seals out. i know a guy who did that putting a 3B P.S. pump on his UR. unless you switch the rack out with a 80/90 unit, you have to stick with the 75bar pump that comes on the 4kq/URq. the other models are like 110bar or something... way higher.

Now we're talkin' progress! Nice work Hank! I ended up using a 4kq power steering pump on my ex. 4ktq and just welded up a custom bracket using the 4kq piece as a base.. IIRC.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys! Yeah, it is comming together... in order of posts...
Derek, I am glad my memory served me correctly, I had heard that a while back, and it stuck with me..
Doug, I am not sure you want to see the bracket!! LOL, its not the prettiest, but not bad either.. I welded on it a bunch to strengthen it up, so there are just a bunch of aluminum beads on it. the tensioner is pretty cool though, that is pic-worthy. I will work on that.. I was looking at it tonight though, and the bracket needs to still go back 1/4 inch, but I think I can just do that with washers or spacers of sorts..
Jeff!! it was good having you out in the garage.. We are kindof isolated here in Vegas, so it is fun when other geeks can get you motivated and in the right direction. For sure we will flog the car when you are back in vegas for work..
Sean, whats up bro!! Yeah, I am back in town, and gettin er done. The car looks good, although you like everyboy will probably give me crap about the color!! Meh, I like it. Yeah, I was wondering what was going on with your blue car. Give me a phone number so I can talk to you. I want ot konw what happened with the AM bumper deal, and how I can come up on a bumper for a reasonable price around november.
Marc! Yeah, my Squarewave skills are improving... I am getting pretty good at welding aluminum cast. I have a couple of projects comming up that will help it out even more.. Anywho, cool!!
Oh and good news.. It apears that the 944 balljoints are almost the same as the earlier urqs, and the boots will work!!! oh yeah, good thing my neighbor races 944s!!! he hooked me up!! Tomarrow the downpipe will be had.

OK, I suck at updating my project.. No, it isnt at a standstill, it is just that I am lazy/busy.. In fact the only reason that I am doing it now is because i am SUPOSE to be craming.... ERrr.... studyin for a midterm tomarrow!! LOL..
Ok so Here are the pictures.. as it sits, all the fluids are ready to be put in, and all the ECU wires are ran, minus the TPS... I have a couple of questions, like: Are the MC1 coils grounded, or are they mearly a "breaker circut" and dont require a ground.. and on the same coil, which is the signal, and which is the power on the 2 wire plug... does it matter...
Ok, I need to do some of the wiring for the headlights, and put in some accesories, like the windshield wipers, and headlights(which i need to make new brackets for....) I need to put in the EGT bung, and tie in the exhaust under der.. All the vacume lines need to be had, and the airfilter just seems to be a neverending problem of mine.. I should just get one of dem hks mushroom filters, but I kindof like my stainless mesh filter that I have..
Everything looks like it is going to work really well, and man if this thing dosnt flow, i dont know what will. I anticipate great results...
With no further delay...

A big thanks to 034 for their help, and patience with me.. I call 24/7, just ask poor Dan...
yup,
better study..
It will fire up tomarrow if all goes right!!
