Loxxrider's 200 20v Revver: See you on "The Project Pad"
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
Nothing, sorry :(
I'll lay out the plan moving forward though.
Right now, I need a part to let my ps pump fit again. Then, it could be driven around a bit. Once its driveable, I'll go have the dp transitioned into the exhaust and the IC piping fabbed up. After that, I could go beat on it again on stock clutch and bottom end. I'd like to redo the fuel system before any serious driving happens though.
After that is pretty solid again, I can focus on an engine build and dry sump setup.
In the meantime, I'll also be looking for another DD (in addition to the E34). I am looking at either an '08 M3 or '00-'03 M5. I'm thinking the M5 will be the best bet for now, but the 8500 RPM of the M3 really gets me going... This will happen sometime later this year.

I hope you get the 200 going again.
You must be doing alright if you are looking at M3 and/or M5 as a DD.
Buddy of mine has an 2000 M5. Very snappy 400chp V8. Expensive in maintenance and fuel.

yeah... a guy can dream right? Really though, such is the life of a recent college grad with a good job but still living with a parent while pitching in a bit. (this is semi-hypothetical, but I have some very good career opportunities coming up.) I also believe in enjoying life while you still can!
The 200 WILL get going again don't you worry.

Take it from someone who has spent a ton of money on cars over the years. Keep one project car and one daily driver.
I dig the E39 M5s. I ended up settling on a 540i for my wife though. 25% the cost to purchase, and probably that much cheaper in running costs as well.

Yeah, I may sell the E34 when that time comes. Its hardly worth it though considering I'd only get $1500 out of it or so. I guess that would take care of one repair bill on the M5 lol. I'm really looking to get one with less than 50k on it.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
By the way, here is a pic of the car in its new home

and how I left it when I came back to school last week (except turbo has filter on it to avoid critters)

I'm waiting for a modified water manifold to come and then I can button her back up again with power steering and power brakes and go on my merry way! (still need IC piping and downpipe)
I can explain the paper towels in the spark plug holes...
I was removing the spark plug wires so I could take intake manifold off and found that every hole had a bunch of oil in it. I thought the worst... I was thinking head gasket problem. After thinking it through for a few minutes, I finally realized that wasn't possible and that the only culprit could be the inner valve cover gasket. Took vc off and found that I am indeed an idiot.
So... I need to figure out some stuff I can buy for this car so I don't go wasting all my money on my BMW projects instead. I have decided that the best thing to do this with is the fuel system. I really just need some BTDT help. How does one hang braided fuel line from the bottom of the car without sacrificing rust protection? I know some just hang the line with screw-in clamps, but there must be some better option? Approximately how much fuel line should one buy for a project like this? I am thinking 40 ft to be on the safe side. I also want to do a surge tank and am not sure whether I should retain the stock tank and pump into the surge tank or if I should just got with a cell (not desirable because of space constraints). Also, I'm going to have to come up with something semi-modular for now until I get dry sump setup. I may do a mechanical pump on the end of the dry sump if space permits. Input is appreciated (mostly on the fuel line routing).

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
So, I am hoping to have the car running again the week after next. All I need is my modified water manifold, mount up the PS pump, fill up with hydro fluid, put the center vc gasket on (doh!), and charge the optima up. I really need to start the thing again or it wont get started until May.
I plan to register it and drive for a bit in May and of course finish up the IC piping and DP to exhaust piping. Then it depends on what job I take/get. Thoughts have been flying around my head... if I take a field engineer job, I may have to ship the car to someone to finish up the engine/dry sump build while I siphon in the $$ lol. Any takers?
I won't have much time to work on it myself and I will not have the thing incomplete and not running for that long.
Anyway, wish me luck on getting it running well next week and any more input on fuel system is welcome.

What are you power goals again? Stock lines will support 500chp.
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
I guess really anything 650whp or greater. 750-800 would be cool to shoot for, but its just a number really. The main thing I would like to accomplish is the high rev limit and 650+ whp.

I love it, your planning out where to put the car, what to buy for it, and how your going to finish it. All these thoughts before taking a job, moving, and figuring out the rest of life...----That's the motorgeek thought process man, I have that sickness too.
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
Are you going with a proven dry sump setup for the I5, or are you going to design it yourself?
A dry sump system is not a one size fits all item, and it is very easy to blow up a motor if it's not right the first time.

Mark, I'm confident that I could design a system on my own that would operate properly, but I know for a fact that I'll never have the time in the foreseeable future to do that.

Considering the 200 is in FL, it would have to be shipped far to any shop that I can think of.
I am guessing that place in Fremont is out.
However, if you have the bux, I'd say you could send it to either:
Jeff Gerner's place (Kansas, right?)
The place where Hap is getting his Monster (Colorado)
Marc Swanson (NJ?)
USP?
Underground Racing? hehehe

Yep, those are my thoughts. I like USP (I know the owner Chris), but having it there for any length of time would probably put the car into 6 figure status regardless lol. They also don't have a lot of 5-cyl experience.
I think Apikol, Marc, Jeff Gerner's would all be good options. Any other takers? Marc is NH BTW.

My car has a pretty sophisticated fueling system that's able to handle 1000+ hp on E-85. I run -10 hard lines from the rear up to the driver's side of the engine compartment. Here's a view of the tap on the back of the fuel tank to draw the fuel external for the big SX Performance fuel pump and the 2 filters. The pump is rated to 1500 hp. You can also see the -10 ss hardline going forward on the left side of the car.

This is a closeup of the 2 filters and the pump with flexible ss line from the first filter then the pump and then the 2nd filter. It then runs flex line over to the hardline and then forward.

On this shot you can see the flex line coming off the hardline and the elbow headed towards the fuel rail.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
Thanks Hap. So no fuel cell for you then huh? I am thinking I want a surge tank though because I'd like to hit the road course. I guess if the tank is full enough that isn't a worry. For the hardline, how are the attachment points for it held to the car? Just screwed in?

My personal opinion is that a surge tank is a ridonkulous item for a street car. I will and have tracked this car plenty and have never had a fuel feed issue. I also ran a surge tank at one time but the delivery capabilities of my current SX Performance pump and the -10 lines make that a nonissue. The only reason we used the surge tank was because we couldn't rely on a single 044 with the factory -6 lines providing the needed fuel in all circumstances. We had one 044 in the tank acting as a boost pump feeding the surge tank and another 044 after the surge tank feeding the fuel rail with -8 lines. Now days its all -10 for the Monster.
The hardline is attached with adel clamps using the factory studs that are on the bottom of the floor pan. Here's a blowup of the bottom.

Hap, with some kind of Adel(not as good looking as Kate) near Everboost, Maguire

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: crank cogs and a new home
What would you do if you didn't have any room up front for the stock ps pump and you need brake assist at least?
I'm thinking either remote electric pump (I can make a controller for it) or maybe a shorter (in length) regular pump? Whichever is easier really. I have an ABZ alt in my garage that I could use for the electric pump... Does anyone know if a small chassis ps pump is compatible with a large chassis car with hydro assist? Learn me on this system. I am a bit dumb when it comes to the ps system.
Also, I could just do vac assist brakes, but I'm not sure how easy that would be...
Oh and I started the car for the first time in nearly 6 months. That was nice
