I do have a few more questions though... I thought the power steering and brake/clutch systems were separate. How come my ps reservoir is connected at the top to my master cylinder? So confuse!

They are separate the clutch just shares the same fluid reservoir with the brake system. The line you are referring to is the return line from the hydraulic brake booster which is what the brake master cylinder is bolted to. See diagram here http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_s ... tml#hydoil

One port on the booster is connected to the master and the other port is connected to the hydraulic pump

Bomb is in no way connected to the brake master. Only to the Brake booster.

thanks for the clarification. I'm having a really tough time bleeding the clutch the old fashioned way. I think I'm going to have to resort to a power bleeder or maybe get a new reservoir cap and just make my own power bleeder.

There was a thread about this somewhere... go buy a brand new oil squirter can and make sure it's cleaned out, get some sort of flex hose and put it on the bleeder, just purge the system backwards that way. When the bubbles stop coming into the res, then you're done.

Power bleeder FOR THE MOTHER EFFIN WIN!

I spent all day Sunday trying to figure out how to get my clutch bled. Took me literally two minutes today. :)

Awesome, looking forward to it. A lot of stress just got relieved from the fact that I got the clutch bled. I was freaking out about it lol. Getting the bilsteins out now to send off tomorrow for shortening and revalve. Got some used ones for my dad's E36 to send out too :)

loxxrider wrote:lol thanks guys. I have a few questions since I'm putting this back together... I'm going to show a lot of ignorance here, but I took it apart a month ago so its hard to remember and I don't have a Bentley... doh!

do both of these wires go on that one post on the starter? Yes

Image

there are a few sensors on the car like this with two wires not in a connector. I assume this means it doesn't matter if the two wires are swapped. There are two more on the tranny like that.
The two female terminals you are holding do not go to that sensor---they go to the two-prong temp switch on the bottom of the water manifold, for the after-run. That sensor in the pic is the dual-purpose oil pressure sender. There should be 3 female terminals with blue, black, and white plastic covers on them in that harness; The black and blue connectors go to the dual sender and the white one goes to the single sender below it. I will look at mine tomorrow to refresh the memory. The other two female spades near the passenger side of the tranny are for the reverse light switch

And I will just say that I am relieved that you and the family are OK..I sleep with a .40 S&W under my pillow, and we have other firearms in the house---there have been a few late-night home invasions in the area, and although I really wouldn't want to end someone's life, I will protect my family..
Nice to see you back on the grind, makes me want to scrounge up some time and create a project thread for mine!

Thanks Cary, you've been a big help! Also thanks for the kind words about the situation I had. I'd certainly like to see a project thread or two from you.

I definitely had those spades all backwards lol. I mainly just care that it runs for the moment, but its nice to get everything right. I should have taken a lot more pictures when I took it apart, but I got too excited.

Clutch seems to have lost a little bit of pedal firmness. I'll have to do it one more time with the power bleeder to make sure I've got it where it needs to be. As soon as I get the parts from Hank, the rad can go back in and then its on with the head! and put it all together. Shouldn't take too long after the rad is in.

Hey Chris -

Can you PM me the details for the Bilstein shortening/revalving? I'm going to need to do the same!

Lookin good Chris. Sorry I didn't get a chance to stop by, 5 days goes fast... Thanks for hangin with us on Thursday though...the brewery and Hogsnappers were both really good.

Flight home was fun...got delayed about 5 times in Atlanta. Worst part is Jess got to stay in Florida for another week...

Not many details really. I just sent them off and put in the instructions for them to revalve them for 450lb springs (3600 lb car) and to shorten the struts 1.5". I'm not going to shorten the strut housings yet so I'll have to make some spacers.

Thanks Ed, it was a pleasure seeing you again and getting some good brews and good food :) Sorry about the flights that sounds terrible! Nice that Jess got to hang around for a bit more though. Lookin' forward to Carlisle 2012!
