The word "Upgrade" explains itself. Just gotta keep a stick handy in case you come across a purist with a bad attitude.

Wow, just saw this over on the vortex. That guy with a 2.5L swapped into a golf with haldex just went 147mph in the quarter on a 35r

Link to video

on low boost, he made 430awhp at 16psi in a haldex converted car. That is crazy nuts. In the thread on the vortex, he said he gets 12psi by 3600 with a standard 35r non billet. I saw an honest 500rpm drop in spool with my billet, so it makes a guy wonder what this motor would be like with a billet turbo.

This compact I5 could save many a core support from the sawzall.

why couldnt you have done this a year ago :(

would totally have rather spent the money on a new 2.5 rather than the AAN lump that is now sitting in my bay. I remember when looking around at what I wanted to swap in(was very close to a vrt) people were saying this swap was too complicated.

O well, ill just have to get a 4k or something to swap one of these bad boys into ;)

Don't feel bad Ken, I was staring at a pile of stuff I had been collecting for a traditional 20v swap just yesterday.

Might I add, that guy running those low 10 passes is running a bone stock head, with bone stock crappy cams. He did go through a stock cast crank though.... He is sporting a TTrs crank now.

A set of cams would probably bring that thing above the 500hp mark fairly easily I would think. From what Ive read the stock cams are absolute crap for top end.

The dyno above is at 16PSI, but he ran that quarter mile at 24psi and made 599.4awhp. For reference, on a better compressor wheel on my 35r, it took me 35psi to break the 600whp mark on a 2.2L.

did he have cams made for the 24psi dyno run? or is that still on the stock cams?

if so that is absolutely incredible.

stock cams. Bluewater, that company a page back I posted the vid of on the dyno, is on stock cams at 850whp. It is crazy looking at the ports on this motor, because they are smallish compared to the AAN. I guess size isn't everything? The lift on the stock cams is laughable, yet the ports are still efficient in getting air in and out of hte ports. Hopefully a company can pony up for some custom cams at some point.

I want to say I saw someone working on some. How about TTRS or RS3 cams?

A bird told me the IE development is on hold... Maybe some ttrs or rs3 cams. That motor is still not what you call a high reving beast. I would be surprised if the cam profiles are much different than the rabbits.

So back to reality.. That dyno plot is not that impressive spool wise. I can make 15 psi at 3500 in sixth on the current setup and I made 344 tq almost 500 rpms earlier than he did on a regular 35r. Impressive #'s though for that amount of boost.

Exactly, lol. That torque curve doesn't fall off like mine. Damn, I really need to get to the dyno again.

Pretty hard to compare dyno load cells for spool. A street log would probably be a tad more comparative(think that is a word). I am not sure he is using VVT either, as in the beginning of the thread I thought I read that he was just fixing the timing for the top end to give the stock cams some sort of chance. Hard to say what his ignition figures looked like, what his ARR was, ect. Best bet is to dyno your car on the same day as a 2.5L at a predetermined facility. You know, for science.
