Marc, you'll have to come back and put a diff-blowin' tune on the Blue Pill like you did to James car at Glenwood! Wait til I have my torsen staged and ready to swap though.

Aaron, how long with this next project keep you in Vegas? Have a time frame to start?

I never got the car aligned after the suspension upgrades / before the Battle Born event. The car went down the road straight but was really twitchy, my basic checks of the rear end was that it was toe'd out. A bunch. This was cause form the prior owner / shop installing the rear tie rods upside down and them making contact with the underside of the chassis and bending at the threads. This not only kept the shop from adjusting them, but probably added some weird bump steer as well. Anyway, as stated in my want-ad, the first one I attempted to straighten broke. It was just too far beyond, and it was bent AT the threads.

I thought that between Martin and I, we had the last three NEW replacements in the World. He sold his pair, so I now have the last known new early tie rod on the planet? Go ME.

What I'd like to do is spearhead a project to develop a solution with available racing parts and get not only my car back on the road by Spring Mountain, but maybe get a couple others back on the road.

The angles will need to be pretty close to what you see below, as well as the little tweak at the subframe-end which helps to clear the subframe itself.

Maybe its as simple as what 034 has done for the later cars (4k's) but utilizing a different adjustment method due to the bends in the tie rod?

Like to hear some ideas and thoughts...

Thanks to Louis-Alain Richard from Audifans we know that the Geo Tracker ball joint is the same as the Urq and has the same 16x1.5mm thread. The Tracker turnbuckle is a bit long but can be turned down to fit the Urq. This is just FYI because I would guess that anyone that can make a new inner tie rod can probably make a custom turnbuckle also. Here is a picture of the Tracker parts on my Urq.

Sean, I started putting feelers out on Monday to find a local who can accomodate our wishes. Shouldn't be to tough.

Wow. that is really good information Sean. Do you have a specific model or part number for the tracker joint?

Hank, if I remember correctly, those discussions were about a 1990 model year tracker.

Greg - thanks for jogging my memory about those.

My issue is still a unique one since my ball joint is actually good, the rods themselves are bent (broke) to sh*t.

Sean, if they need a part in-hand I can provide one.

1990 Tracker/Samurai is correct.

W/E I took a road trip to SLC / Park City in it as well... I think 6000 miles in ~6 years is just right. Don't hate just because my office is 5 miles from home - and I have at least two other cars to drive - and Im out of town roughly 2 weeks a month in some lame rental car.

If it makes y'all feel any better Im now officially on my 4th tank of gas for 2010, not that I'll finish it by years end though :slap: I remember just how painful it is to fill one of these cars, 19.6 gallons yesterday! I tried a new Rebel (76) station near me, I noticed they had 'that extra oddball colored nozzle' in the middle lane which I was hoping to be 100 octane. Come to find out when pulling in - it was E85.[/quote]

Unless I'm on a roadtrip I don't fill it more than half full. Sits in the tank too long - about a month - and its just extra weight to haul around. Heck half a tank is still 12 gallons!

I am draining a tank every 4-5 days, but I guess when you are consuming fuel at a rate of 7000cc/min at full tilt

Sean-have you ever dynoed this car? I'm curious to see what you are at hp wise. Someone wants me to build the 20vt in it while I want to just leave it as is and enjoy it for what it is.

I haven't dyno'd it yet. I really want to as I think its one of the strongest 20v's out there. The shop here in Vegas wasn't able to dyno it last fall due to the style of dyno and I haven't found any other true rolling-road dynos here in town.

If I start prepping a 20v for transplant it really wont be due to a lack of power of the 20v, mainly ease of service and smoothness of the engine itself.

I run it at a lazy 20psi around town and at the track. I have run it up to 24 a couple times and it felt like a totally different car.

I would imagine that 24psi would be pretty brisk. The 4kq with the VR6t in it now was quite fun with 12 psi and 034IIC on an MC2
