We could probably talk Richard into a set as well.

Im kinda thinking like you Jim, I had been looking at spacers a couple days ago. I think I could get away with 10's on the front and 15's on the rear - but not much more than that without rolling the fenders - which Im not completely against either...

I'd have to scrape up some money for at least the rear if not the rear and a complete set. I'm a lot happier these days since I collapsed the bumper shocks and pushed the pingpong tables in so it would depend on price and timing.

Ok, snap your fingers a couple times for me Hank - Im sure $800 worth of tires will magically appear before me :slap:

I have cut the quattro budget to nil after this last set of upgrades. I have a Lancia that needs some lovin'

Will it be a built factory-supercharged 2L or a 16v Integrale' crate engine... 8) Im not sharing the answer to that until one or the other is sitting in the garage :D

Add me to the list of mildly interested in a set of bumpers/valences depending on price.

Nothing new to report as far as current projects however I have a few small ones on the horizon that Im gearing up for (no pun intended) - rear diff. My rear diff has always been a little clunkier than I liked and now that its delrin mounted and Im running alot more power thru it - it might be getting worse. Im reaching out to find an early single piece diff and have intentions of merging it with V8 Torsen internals. So if anyone has either of these two bits lying around (preferably in the greater Southwest) let me know.

On a lighter note - it's surely loving the 40° night time temps on 100 octane :O)

If you are set on doing the torsen rear, don't worry about finding a single piece diff. The single piece rear diff is needed for URQ guys because the 108mm rear flanges that the multipiece rear diffs do not have. If you are putting a torsen out of a v8 in though, the cups from the v8 are already 108mm. Therefore, it is easier and nicer to source a multipiece rear diff/arms and shove the v8 bits into it. Get it?

The v8 rear diff swap into the uRQ is nice because it requires no machine work on the output flanges. It is plug and play really.

I txted you. Txt me back when you get a chance.

I still need to take the Torsen guts out of the V8 diff and transplant them into the UrQ / 4K unit right? Keeping in mind that Im already running 4:11's...

Im planning on getting the Torsen unit set up first so I can do a simple afternoon swap.

Right. The v8 is a 4.11 rear diff as well. When people go 4.11's in the URQ, the only option is to find a 4.11 set out of a 84 with the single piece rear diff, as it is the only 4.11 small chassis box to exist with 108mm output flanges to match the URQ. That is probably what you have in your URQ OR somebody has traded your rear half shafts for 4kq units. If the rear diff is a once piece you still have your original shafts.

Now if you are swapping in a v8 rear diff, you can use a diff from any small chassis car post 84. This is nice because then you can just get one out of say a CQ being parted, or perhaps a 80q. They are more plentiful than the 1 year only 4kq.

Yes, the torsen guts will swap into the small chassis rear diff, and the cups will be used as well. Make sure you get the cups with the torsen unit... Enjoy that loss of power when the rear wheel lifts :)

I know that I have the large flanges and proper UrQ shafts. For all I know htey could have just put 4:11 gearset into the actual UrQ housing. My purpose is two-fold, I need get a solid unit lined up in case of impending failure of the current one, and I want to simplify by removing another system in the car (vacuum locks).

I'd like to migrate to a center Torsen at some point as well but it's not a pressing issue at this point.

I think you would use more than 3 tanks of gas per year if you didn't buzz around everywhere at 4500 rpm. That's the reason to go torsen to me. Torsen trAnsforms the car.

I might only use two tanks of fuel / year if I brought the revs down

I have to agree here. Locked rear is way more fun. Instant power oversteer (with torsen center).

W/E I took a road trip to SLC / Park City in it as well... I think 6000 miles in ~6 years is just right. Don't hate just because my office is 5 miles from home - and I have at least two other cars to drive - and Im out of town roughly 2 weeks a month in some lame rental car.

If it makes y'all feel any better Im now officially on my 4th tank of gas for 2010, not that I'll finish it by years end though :slap: I remember just how painful it is to fill one of these cars, 19.6 gallons yesterday! I tried a new Rebel (76) station near me, I noticed they had 'that extra oddball colored nozzle' in the middle lane which I was hoping to be 100 octane. Come to find out when pulling in - it was E85.
