i havent heard from them in forever. i think they got pissed at me for asking about it every two-three months. each time they said "it should be ready by June xx" i would be emailing them on that date.

i did already purchase part that i KNOW i could make work too.... just need to make a tower for it and make the connection to the stock rod.

oh i am taking it ultra light duty. thats the reason the driver side isnt done, and the front end done as well.

but i hate not being busy and just lazy-ing around. its not me. already today i browsed thru the whole thread up to the second motor built LOL. its really been four years. and time is flying by.

"my hands are sticky....."

but, i might paint the top half of the car black now, for a change in looks. i dunno, but i like change every now and again.

oh yes, John? i just sent Hank the V-box, you need to get some time with it if your car is up and running. and Sean, too. its cool and has great data opportunities. it does a pretty accurate job of 1/4 mile. and 0-60, 0-100, 60-130, etc. 60' was close, too.

That's cool. I'll have to play with it a bit. Hank had said something about it. :woowoo:

its really neat. would you like to know the forward or lateral g-force your car does? it tells you. braking g-force as well. it really is a useful gadget.

and i did about 30 minutes out in the garage and i am out of desire to do more, physically speaking. my mind? another story.

so, remember a few yrs back we had an issue with the clutch master while on the dyno? i saw this and chuckled. this midnight fix cobbled together with scraps layin around, turned out to last thru a lot of abuse. the stock spring on the clutch return? i noticed that too.

and i cleaned up the driver side dash sheet metal some. and found out the hard way (is there any other way?) that fresh cut sheet metal is sharp. man what looks like such a shallow scratch really does leak some!

well, it seems that i have found myself in that "need the last lil bit" zone after all....

soooo many posts i would like to quote, etc. spent the day re-re-re-reading every post in this thread. and many things we talked about 1-2-3+ yrs ago are all being brought to mind again.

and i cant wait to show my next new toy...

Aaron, 4 damaged discs? If you don't take it easy for 2 YEARS it will not heal well. My L5-S1 ruptured in March 2011, still have to avoid heavy lifting. I can also tell you that pushing a heavy clutch will hurt you.
Ask me how I know.

yep. i can barely drive a stick now. and driving last event? 5 passes i gave up, and still had some time left to run more.

so, i am thinking i am gonna drop the motor/trans 1/2" or so, maybe like 3/4", down. right now the fuel rail fitting has rubbed and worn a hole in the CF hood. bummer, but its where vinyl is so its not noticeable except if you look for it. but it bothers me.

and i am also contemplating some steering changes too, involving a different rack and flopping the struts to have the steering arms to the back instead of the front of the strut. and pulling the strut steering arms inboard just a little. just stuff i am thinking about is all.

oh yes. i got the backup trans out of storage and up on the bench. (like to kill me picking it up, oddly it didnt hurt to do so) in preparation for fitting the new SHIFTER!!!!!!!

Lifting transmissions is a good way to mess up your back. I know you are a big strong guy, but this will not help.
I know I am not your doctor/mother, but ... you keep this up, you will not be able to drive stick. Ever again.

i didnt do the lifting in/out of truck. just to the bench. and i probably should wait for the guy who did the other to do it too.

i am just soooooo bored not doing anything. i am not an idle person, and its hard to sit and do nothing at all.

I know, so you will have to mentally prepare for a long rest. I am not nearly so active and it was annoying for me too not to be able to even carry the shopping. My wife was on my ass continuously about not lifting. If she saw me lifting anything heavier than 2 kg she got upset. No sex for a while either.
If you really want to work on the car, you will need to get somebody to do all the lifting. You have pain shooting up one of your legs? Cramping? Since you know what is up with your discs, did you have an MRI done?

ya had MRI Monday and the results were L1-2 bulged L2-3 bulged L3-4 bulged L5-S1 bulged. L4-5 torn and piece broken off. tomorrow the neurosurgeon consult i am waiting for.

pain and numbness and cramping comes and goes, from leg to leg.

that is the most i have lifted in a long time. and i am not wanting to do it again for awhile. thus why i havent really gotten any work done on the car. little tiny bits and pieces that have no real physical effort.

near as i can figure, cut out this stump while building my shed. i broke the pick axe on it, then finished it off with a short bladed sawzall, a digging bar, and a splitting maul. all i had layin around. next day i was hurtin real good. had to have a friend come over and finish the roof for me i could barely move. hurt for 1.5 weeks, then drove 1000 miles to Vegas for work. then drove back home 2 weeks later. that in itself was killin me. been at chiropracter and physical therapy for 7-8 weeks, and last wednesday i held in a sneeze because i was in the kitchen. i felt something give and it dropped me to the floor.

crawled to a chair and then on to bed. doctor said the next day it was just a muscle spasm. PT on friday. chiro on monday, he sent me to MRI right away. said i probably most likely broke the disc when i sneezed.

You know what my doc said after seeing my MRI? If I don't take care of myself for 2 years, I ran the risk of pinching off my nerves so bad, I would lose motor function in my left leg.
Yeah, f*ck that. I'll stick to driving auto and getting other people to lift my heavy stuff.

As an adrenaline junkie I highly recommend taking the time to find a sports therapist for your physical therapy. Your average everyday therapist and doctor will do a great job getting you back to work, but a good specialist in sports will get to back to better than you where. It will kick your ass, and you will hate your therapist and doc.

Ive fractured both legs, blown out my knee twice, broken enough ribs to be able to count them by fractures, more concussions than I care to count and a ruptured disc or two, lots of breaks in the arms and hands etc etc. Taking the time to find a good specialist will not only shorten your recovery, but also improve it. You will spend time strengthening your back as well as letting it heal.

Good luck, and I love reading the updates for your car. Inspirational stuff.

Back on topic, did you lengthen your steering column or did you place the dash bar where the mounts used to be. If you lengthened the column what column did you use or did you cut and splice?

thanks for that info, i will definitely keep that in mind. the PT was being done at a spinal rehab place.

the steering column, done long ago. i believe i built the cage then mounted it to the same place it would have been in the car. certainly didnt do any modding to the shaft itself. i do run (for now) a Fox manual rack, and had to get tricky with an early aircooled Bug rag joint to make the connection. the CQ is a power rack and had a longer snout off the rack to connect to the steering shaft.

we shall see what i come up with next.... but i may be putting in a different steering components... adding tilt? LOL

but i found a rack that is only ~2.75 to 2.875 lock-to-lock.... its power, and it will not be run power, just manual. its a straight ahead only car so it should be fine. i turn now just fine by Armstrong Power steering :) its just harder on the slicks is all. much harder than a street tire at pressure where the slicks have 12psi....

Very cool, I'll be watching with interest. This sounds like something very usable in the rally car.

the rack, BTW, is just A4 B5 rack. it requires 14mm x 1.5 heim joints to use in my application, as well as flipping the strut housings side to side and bringing the arms in just a smidge.... also running them on the back side of the strut tower not the front. should work great with the rest of the mods.....

now, we discussed this a few pages back, and i wasnt really ready to say that it was already in the works. so, its already been decided, bought, and RECEIVED!!!!

yep. decided to skip making a VWMS style shifter, which would have worked very well in my eyes, as i got one a few months ago to play with.

and tired of waiting for CAE to finish up with their style shifter with cables, i dropped the coin to get the SEQUENTIAL SHIFTER!!!!!!
