Hey Marc, we totally understand. Given the circumstances we're very happy. We were talking with Erik (ice rckt above) and we might both head over to see Brady when water/meth is installed. Phone support?

Interesting for a 64mm turbo to be making anywhere near the same power as a nicely tuned 56mm (the 30r that Ed has) at close to the same boost. Maybe the exhaust manifold is holding things back at this point? Then again, Ed's manifold isn't much different is it? Just throwing some thoughts on the table. Still good power, I'm just curious about the differences.

Ed's manifold is Wagner RS2, dad's is Wagner SQ Evo port matched... should definitely NOT be the exhaust manifold.

Heck, Jim on 91 octane made 450whp on a non-billet 35R and doesn't have big valves. Either this build is missing something, or something isn't quite right here. The only three things I can think of that this car doesn't have that would hold it back would be:

big intake manifold (AAN manifold IS gutted and ported, though)
big valves
water/meth injection - allows for more boost/timing

a4kquattro wrote:mostly an issue of time. As you saw, I already ran out of time to tune all of the cars that wanted to be put on the rollers (at 5 am!). Your car probably could have used more advance in a few spots, I pushed the timing in the key areas to make sure I wasn't going to see giant leaps in power without any knock (which it didn't) so I left it alone. Given another hour or so, I would have pushed the load cells using steady state tuning at full boost while dialing the advance and listening for knock. Only so much that can be done in an hour unfortunately.

This is what I was saying to Matt...another hour on the dyno and that car should be making a lot more power. Would have been interesting to see the RS2/motronic and 3071/motronic cars get on there too, maybe next year? Thanks again for the late night tuning sesh Marc.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your setup as-is. Only a matter of tuning. Keep in mind my car had already spent hours on the dyno with Brenden, and at this point is pretty much maxed out with the current setup and pump gas. One more degree of timing made 435whp but also detonated. I think your car could see a lot more timing before reaching that point, esp if spraying meth.

Word, I'm wrapping my head around this :) I think meth is next. Thankfully Brady is semi-local. I think we'll hit him up after the install.

I'm thinking that is the main thing too. Timing makes a HUGE difference and I bet your map is conservative

are you sure that all of the cam timing is correct? kinda easy to be off by a small amout.

Keep you head up! That was a great baseline tune. From here on out, you are only goign to make more power.

Well it's not too bad considering Ed did 427whp and 375wtq on the same dyno... Less powa but mo' tq. Should make great torque at 30psi w/ timing. We'll see when the meth is in and we head to Montreal for a dyno session with Brady.

The whole reason to build a stroker is for the tq.
I haven't went through ur thread but u started with a tall deck EV block or a standard block?

Standard block with 92.8mm crank and 83mm pistons, comes out to just over 2.5l.

This isn't a final tune, but I'd say those hp/tq figures are pretty close. There was another guy there who had his 3071 car tuned, and made 360/390, but dad's car felt much faster. Plus with the stroker and Quickspool valve, this 64mm turbo spooled VERY closely to Ed's 30R, which I think is pretty impressive.

I'll post a graph as soon as brady gets back to me.

When I went to EPL to watch this car,
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15035&hilit=red+barron
get dyno tuned it layed down over 400wheel hp at over 400wheel tq on a Conservative tune.
Can't wait to c with a proper tune what u get.

We're hoping for 450+ but not sure exactly what we'll hit. Meth should give us 30psi and then who knows what for timing.

pffft that is a 500+whp setup all day long... Lots more tuning and maybe a smaller hotside?

Well now that we're not seeing that dip when the QSV opens I don't think we need to go smaller. Maybe it's something we can try if we hit a wall or something shows us the hotside is definitely too big.

Oh - Brad said Marc said we need to go smaller. WHen did he say that? Didn't hear it myself.

Yeah Marc was saying a .82 would be a good idea. Apparently Comp doesn't make one but ATP or some other company does. .82 would make it build boost a lot faster, and an earlier torque peak means more hp on the top end

Ooooh, that's when he was saying that. Alright yeah, I remember now. Trying to remember specific moments from that early in the morning is hard. hahaha

Yeah I found the .82 on ATP's site for a 35R. It's just that Comp would have to machine it, and, well... yeah. Maybe once the snow flies the turbo can come off for who knows how long, but for now we're gonna enjoy this and see how meth does.

Does that QSV really work or is it snake oil? what was it like without it or with the valve fully open on the final tune?
