Not hardly. We put most everything we have together with channel locks and a screwdriver around here. And you surely know me better than to think I'm fast putting any project together. I'm about caught up with my project thread and need to get out in the garage and do some more actual work, but then with the time change, I do have an extra three hours before noon.You guys have all the toys, looks like it should be finished by noon today!
That's what I've been doing wrong John, I don't have my coil in a cardboard box
Where is your project thread for your Urq? Post up!! I'd be interested in your approach if your Urq turns out as nice as your coupe quattro. The way you work you won't even have to start for another month or two and will still be able to make that kind of deadline.cbrydon wrote:Great batch of updates...I've got a similar, but different, story to tell...
Let's try to get them on the road for this as yet undetermined gtg
Man it's sure been a long time since I did any of that stuff. I wonder if the range of cutters you have would work with the Lancia valve sizes. 36.5 / 43quattro87 wrote:http://www.cylinderheadsupply.com/nestdicubo.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was a little skeptical, but these are really nice cutters. I bought two sizes in 30,45, 60deg for both the intake and exhaust. I probably could have made the small size work for the intake seats also. I cleaned up the original head and Hank has rebuilt his head that he is currently running on his car now. In other words the cutters are pretty well paid for already.
Getting ready to cut 3 angles into my seats. The blueing is to help these tired old eyes be able to see the angles and width of the 45deg seating edge.
I sure wish I had a lift to be able to pull the motor and trans out the bottom. What a PITA!!!! Craig, I might have to fly you out to Las Vegas to cut the core support out before it's all said and done.Highlander wrote:Great progress John.
This is going to be sweet.
keep the pics coming
Cheers,

Sure you can, most 2-ton jacks can lift the car high enough to slide the motor under even with the valance on.quattro87 wrote:I sure wish I had a lift to be able to pull the motor and trans out the bottom. Spot welded everything!!!
Exactly what Hank says, but I figure that the stroker will be less likely to rev past 7500 and besides this head is already together so the Ti retainers stay for awhile anyway.ust do the light lifters in this one, leave the Ti retainers for the other car. Or, switch the other car to single spring like Audi did for the AFC with Ti retainers, light lifters etc etc. Get the valve-train really light.
Like I said earlier I probably could have got away with just the small set and just adjusted the cutters further out in order to cut the larger intake valves. In the Lancia's case with the 43mm intake I think the smaller set would be to small, but we should be able to do them with the other set. What diameter valve stem does the Lancia use? Like Hank says I bought three shafts, all around the 7mm range so that I could make sure I could cut with good concentricity even with slightly worn guides. Obviously the tighter the fit of the cutter shaft in the valve guide, the better the cut.I wonder if the range of cutters you have would work with the Lancia valve sizes. 36.5 / 43
