I would have to see this to believe it. 255's yes, but 275's? I don't think so...

Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysThanks for posting that! Yes, the car is running like a top and especially in the weather. It is freezing up here in willows!
The cruise control worked amazing, I can't believe I waited so long to hook it up. I did not notice any fuel enrichment issues, Sam so we can compare numbers. Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysJim, the Legend, the Myth.
What's it like to be called "legendary"? Darin

Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysI guess it feels good, I had a couple of almost legendary moments today on r-comps+36degreea+very damp track+off camber+big rear sway made the rear of the car beat the front around the turn a fee times. It was pretty much like ice driving!
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anyways
sounds like a blast have a safe and fun weekend Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysSounds like fun as long as no one drives into you while your practicing your spins.
I'm gonna come out in the morning with some friends and check everything out.Dan

Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysExactly, normally I wouldn't posting about a spin, but it all added to the learning experience, after all that is why I am here! The first time was just a touch too much trail braking into turn 3 an off camber corner and the rear end stepped out pretty fast on me. I actually recovered it really well, buy had to dirty up a few tires to finish the job, no spin here.
Second time was the exact same spot and the car in front of me had spun and gone well off track, first time seeing that unfold in front of me I barely tapped the brakes and this time there was no saving it. I stayed well on track, buy embarrassing more than anything, especially since it was all caught on someone elses camera. We all had good laughs over it at dinner.
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anyways
At least just a little scare factor no damage to car, cold track is hard even in a straight line some times
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anywaysNice numbers, Jimmy!!
Re: spins...just keep your foot in it - it's quattro! Now let's see some vids...or whenever you get back...have fun today too. Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt, who needs 2nd gear anyways:stupid:
And if you don't have to shift, try left foot braking. Once you get some practice, it's pretty awesome. Walter Rohrl baby! Mark Siggelkow

Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpI am getting there, turn 3 had my number on Saturday, Sunday was much better, and I will likely do the May event and focus on more advanced things like left foot braking. I am really happy after this weekend, I have done lot's of track events prior to this, but I feel like I am finally beyond connecting the dots if you will. Establishing a rhythm, trail braking and getting the car car lined up for the earliest application of WOT was sooo much fun, and WAY faster. Last time out I was hammering on the gas and brakes to go fast, this time it was just fast and I felt like I didn't have to work at it, there is about an 5 second lap time difference between last years video one below.
This is the best vid I captured, some traffic, but shows two complete laps. I need to work on the laptimer app, I don't like the points at which it starts and stops, and it only records every other lap. This one worked out well for video because it missed the start finish POI and combined two laps into one. There is a little talking, just ignore it Link to video Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpI love the little track info and speed in the corner, that is awesome, makes it seem likea video game!
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpGood job Jim, I wished I could have made it but it was not in the cards.
Your line is right, 14-15 is hard to get right. It will come together. Hopefully I'll make May, we'll see. Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpGreat video...but, which button do I press to get the behind the car view? R1? lol
I like the R-L-R section over the crest at 40sec...that looks fun and kinda like a similar section at Laguna Seca... ...and I think you need a nogaro blue 'something' to go with ol' yeller...'er vomit comet... Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpyeah, looks great Jim. That track seems pretty tricky at a few corners and very fun.

Thanks! I heard a V8 pull up and ran over thinking it might be you, sorry you couldn't make it.
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpAwesome,
Glad to see the car running so well............looks like to much fun. Cheers, Craig Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpVery nice! I'm really impressed with the quality of that video and data.

Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpnice breaking of the 500hp barrier. how much boost for that on track play?
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpThe car was on 19 psi of boost, about 390 whp at the dyno the day before. It's a good balance of power, everything stays cool, and the brakes can keep up at that level.
Not bad for an iphone and $115 in parts! All of the other info you get with the app is great too. I used it as a speedometer on the way home to make sure I wasn't ever going more than 10 over
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whp
Hey Jimmy What ap is that and what equipment did you buy to go along with? Nice job on the track for a hack. What brakes are you running? I like to have all I can get at the track and modulate with the right foot so as not to get too crazy. Probably smarter the way you did it though. It is hard to restrain yourself sometimes. Hap, with some kind of restraint near Everboost, Maguire
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpHap, it's Harry's Laptimer app for the iPhone, $15 in the app store. The iPhone 4 is best because it can do 720p video.
I sprung for the Tom-Tom external GPS window mount, ~$90. It greatly improves the gps resolution over the built phone gps, and is a pretty solid mount. Plus it charges the phone.
Re: Jim Green's 90 20vt - 506whpDamn, that video is from an iPhone?? wow.
Good job out there...few turns seemed to give you trouble but overall looks like lots of fun. The track looks interesting..I like it. | |
