A better x-Plug O-Ring?

So I'm looking at McMaster Carr for some 02-018 orings for my x-plugs. Since the knowledge seems to support that these fail because it is a poor application for an o-ring (it gets squished IIRC) I'm wondering if there is a better choice than standard viton.

Compressible FEP-Encapsulated O-Rings

A pliable FEP exterior combined with a resilient rubber core gives these O-rings excellent compressibility. Perfect for sealing corrosive fluids, the FEP encapsulation also makes them virtually invulnerable to most solvents and chemicals while maintaining the corrosion resistance and slippery surface of PTFE. FEP encapsulation has a durometer hardness of D55, silicone core has a durometer hardness of A70, and Viton® fluoroelastomer core has a durometer hardness of A75. FEP encapsulation meets ASTM D2116 and LP389A and is FDA compliant.

Silicone—Temperature range is -75° to +400° F. O-rings are clear with a red-orange inner ring.

Viton® Fluoroelastomer—Offers even greater chemical resistance than silicone. Temperature range is -15° to +400° F. O-rings are clear with a black inner ring.


Double-Seal O-Rings

With four sealing surfaces, you'll get twice the sealing protection as standard O-rings. Also known as Quattro Seals and X-rings, double-seal O-rings are symmetrically designed for sealing on the ID, OD, top, and bottom. This reduces the amount of force needed to create a positive seal, increasing seal life and reducing maintenance. All meet ASTM D2000/SAE J200.

Buna-N is used in oil applications. Temperature range is -40° to +250° F. Durometer hardness is A70. Color is black.

Viton® fluoroelastomer works well in higher temperatures, with a range of -15° to +400° F. Durometer hardness is A75. Color is black.


These are 10x the cost of the above but have a higher temp range:

Kalrez Perfluoroelastomer O-Rings
Kalrez compound 4079 resists nearly all classes of chemicals except some fluorinated solvents. It combines the resilience and sealing force of an elastomer with excellent chemical and temperature resistance similar to that of PTFE. Temperature range is 32° to 600° F. Durometer hardness is A75. Color is black.

Kalrez compound 6375 has a temperature range of 27° to 527° F. Durometer hardness is A75. Color is black.

IMO, the Kalrez o-rings are overkill, and not very good for those of us who exist for half a year in the deep freeze.

But I'm very interested in those Double Seal o-rings, happen to have a link? Mine is weeping, as chance would have it... so an upgrade instead of direct replacement would be much welcomed.

Anyway, mcmaster.com does not really support linking but the pn is 6540K128 $13.80 for a pack of 25.
