UFO to HP2 conversion 200 20v

Been talking about conversion to HP2 set-up for quite some time (this and the last 200 20v!) and time is now. Have a hub bearing that's making some noise... The UFO's are thin, and started to thump on 1500 mile trip this last summer! Have always been happy with UFO braking performance, but they are almost unobtanium and where available, stupid expensive....not happening. Picking up pair of HP2's from a local shop for $150 , will reseal and clean them up...

Could go the G60 route, (USR6 housings) but that would end up with less brake than the UFO's!

Plan is to turn hub down at work when apart for bearing, drill mounting holes to 14mm and take off the unused mount hole. Have read all the posts i could find over the last year or so as regards this conversion but still a few questions!

1. When shopping around for the HP2 rotors I'm seeing 320 and 321 mm. OEM EPC lists both, normal jobber source also listing both sizes. Is there any difference? (besides the 1mm larger dimension) Leaning towards Zimmermanns.

2. Last, but not least.... Currently have Fuchs. I've queried several times with only Yoda replying. Any first hand knowledge with HP2's and Fuchs URS6 16's? Found something way back when, somewhere, somehow, that they would fit! But if i do all this and these wheels with good tires don't fit I'm kind of screwed!!!! // Yoda thinks may need 5mm spacers, but others have claimed they will fit?//

This car is no longer my daily, but like to drive on longer road trips, etc. Want to do this right!

Posted elsewhere, and got a little info. Believe the 321's are what i want! Got a reply that rotor may not center properly on the UFO as the centering portion is a little shallower on the UFO hub. He used the G60 hubs instead. My concern with G60 hubs is slightly different offset between that and the UFO hub!

Any BTDT would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Eric

G60's even with good pads are (In my honest opinion) - Junk on a 20vT car being driven in a spirited manner - they overheat quickly and cannot slow down the car past 120mph with any sort of confidence.

Cool - There is a pretty endless amount of info on this conversion. You can also research some easy to adapt porsche brake setups that are cool - but the HP2's will work awesome and be the cheapest.

Looks like the split is 314 vs 323 - If you can fit the 323 rotor under your wheels I would try that. I would always pay the extra for the zimmermans - especially for front brakes (Make sure you clean the oil off them!)

No one is going to know such an obscure measurement is my 2c - I think that they will fit without spacers. 5mm spacers are really affordable and not the end of the world to add to your car if you are really concerned.

I run 20mm spacers on mine to clear the brakes.

Code: Select all

I would research a bit more and just copy what someone has done (E.g. those 323mm rotors)
Any BTDT would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
