Picked up an average 1995.5 URS6. I will be putting a 30R on the stock 225k mile motor. The car will be tuned on VEMS by Nick (AMD is the best)

I TIG'd up a full stainless exhaust for the car with a single Magnaflow muffler. This set up may change when I do the build.

Nice, this will be fun. Good thing you've got someone like Nick nearby to help with the tune. I like the idea of the resonator. I'd love to hear what you think about its ability to cancel the drone.

It works great. However I think I'll be adding a second muffler on the new set up

Cool! Never seen that kind of resonator before! Does it just take sound and put it out of phase with the main stream?

Did you actually measure the drone frequency prior to the resonator addition and tune it to that? Or did you just build it? Not knocking your work, just curious since I'm an acoustical engineer. Exhaust sounds great regardless!

I did a frequency analysis using a cool iPhone app. We did look at the recording in audacity as well and it about the same results. I built it to cancel out 112hz since that was the most prominent frequency at the Rpm it was droning.

Awesome! Glad to see it properly done.

Thats a very cool Idea for the exhaust. I wonder how much louder it would have been without that.

Well I got a great deal on a different turbo than my original plan. I picked up a Precision 5857 ball bearing for cheap. It is a V-band in and out model, so I decided this would be a good chance to learn how to fabricate a manifold. I know from reading online that fabricating a collector, especially a 5-1 is tricky, but I'm stubborn and like to build my own stuff.
I began by building a handy collector jig for my band saw:

And after a couple of hours on the saw, I came up with this:

Now it's time to order up some stainless and get to work!

It seems as though I can't catch a break when looking to purchase a turbo. So I went with a reputable company and ended up with a Holset HY35. This turbo should be plenty to get me through this year and I saved a bunch of money. I also ordered VEMS today!

Your last update said you're gonna be running a 5857, not a hy35... I might be wrong though

The guy with the 5857 got sketchy as I was in the process of paying him so I went with my gut and said nevermind. I picked up an HY35 from Goldfarb today, the guy on the phone was extremely helpful. His name is Kash for anyone considering a Holset. I'm hoping to be in the mid-high 300s for WHP with my set-up on E85. I don't care much about numbers, but it would be nice to run an 11 second pass with a $200 turbo.

I was confused by your comment too OB lol

Nice fab work so far, love seeing these kinds of builds.

Have you finalized a runner design for your manifold? The ones by the late Peter G in Sweden are far and away my favourite. Long bends, equal length and just downright beautiful design.

Image

Also interested in your HY35 results, as that was the turbo I had earmarked until I got bit by the EFR bug.

Nice work! Definitely following this thread. I'm also earmarking an hy35 once I get my chassis sorted. Neato resonator too man!

That is a beautiful manifold. That design might not make sense for my set up, but we will see how it turns out. I like what Hank is doing too.

Those sketchy PTE guys... glad you went with your gut though... more budget builds would be nice to see... 11's tho won't be seen on HY35 unfortunately...

my car ran 11.7 @125 on an hy35 on pump gas. What does a urs weight vs 90q? I actually have no idea. 90 20v is supposed to weight about 3200 I think.

With enough boost and the right launch you could see 11s, especially on the corn.

I weighted 3923lb with 1/3 tank of gas, full size spare and me in it... I'd love to see a 56mm turbo touch 11's on a UrS car on corn...
I know Nick kissed 11's with a 30r which is a faster spooling 57mm in his much lighter 200tq on e85... but hey, I'm in for results, not hating at all...
