Get an appraisal first, but make sure the car is competed.
Classic car insurance with restrictions is called Policy 19A and does not depreciate the value of the car.
You will not be able to use it as a daily driver.
If you still want to have it as a DD, you can insure it with a regular insurance (your current company should be able to do it) under Policy 19 which will use the appraised value but depreciate it each year.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Martin. It won't ever be a true DD because of the jetta. I'll talk with you more about it at the next meet :)

Well i had the opportunity to drive the car today... But I didn't.

This is the condition of the road leaving the shop. Dry and salt free but dirty dirty dirty.

My jetta which is driven:

But i did set the toe! Camber was okay at 2 degrees. It's acceptable but alignment rescheduled for Thursday. At least this way if it rains and is nice after i can drive it before Thursday. Regardless, if it's nice thus coming weekend I'll be driving it.

I cleaned the interior and exterior. Fresh rain x, and removed all the gross wax stuff from the inside of the windows. So weird... also put the VEMS decal on finally! Just need EFIexpress now! Marc??? :)

Ooooooh! Thanks! I'd say red or white.

Took her for the initial shakedown before supper! I had dad pilot the car since I wanted to look at VEMS to make sure everything was okay. He really drives like a grandpa. He said it felt tight though and there was only really one clunk in the rear which might be the exhaust. I'll have a look back there and just make sure everything is tight.

Notes:
- Spring pressure feels great, ~12psi.
- turbo blankets smell
- my tune is slightly rich until higher rpm where it moves to target lambda. Xtra torque from bigger hotside?
- holy fox, paying 1.53/L for 94oct sucks
- I still have no idea how the car really feels to drive
- having brakes is really nice
- the car REALLY needs to be driven decisively. It likes ample driver input and punishes lack of confidence. I don't want to say the word aggressive, but I suppose it is compared to a normal car
- unfortunately IAT didn't really improve, this intercooler might be garbage. Saw 40°c on spring pressure even with turbo blanket and 3b shielding. Damn cxracing eBay crap. I'll just setup a little more aggressive timing pull with IAT
- I'll have to go out with a buddy tomorrow and tune it a bit. NEED MOAR BOOST

94 octane was 1.41 today, that's a big ass price cut lol

MY driving impressions:
Definitely an increase in nvh, but I was expecting that. There is some shuddering sometimes when engaging the clutch, more notably in reverse (because one typically reverses slower). All that energy soaked up in the old bushings has to go somewhere now. When driven more aggressively the car performs flawlessly. I love these tire, there is grip for days. Steering is very sharp, input=output. The car is on rails, which sucks for shitty roads but again is to be expected. Overall I'm very happy. I love just cruising in this car, it's super easy to zone out and enjoy the scenery. And then on/off ramps are WHEEEEEEE. Can't wait till the roads are clear and I can push it through since twisties! Nick's video... Ugh, I need some of that in my life.

Also, spring pressure is fast as hell. The 30-100kph sprint is hilarious and super fun. I think the hotside makes a huge difference and honestly the car is so light it moves really well before boost even builds. 5psi would be considered "fast" by many (just not many here, lol).

I picked up a cheap laptop today, let the tuning commence!

Curious... What happens when you put a 1.8t mat sensor in bit don't have the resistor in VEMS? Out vice versa... My mat seems to bottom out at about 28 or 29 c. As far as I know VEMS should be setup for the 1.8t bit maybe it's not?

it'll have the wrong slope.

the stock sensor is PTC (positive temperature coefficient). 1.8t is NTC (negative temperature coefficient). so, aside from the iat firmware patch being wrong, there is also the wrong size pullup resistor inside the ecu. details here on how to convert properly:

Well, I got the ECU from you and I am positive (I just checked) taht I ordered it for 1.8t MAT sensor. Is it normal for the IAT to bottom out like that? I'm talking on 0 degree or in the negatives and it just sits there... I'll confirm it's actually doing funny things today.

Why does it look like the car is wandering all over the road? (Just based on your steering input)

And i painted it's summer wheels black today! Sarah gave me a hard time for modifying HER car. Should have asked first... Too late now though.

I finally had some time to mess around in the 4k. I've been installing a sub the last couple days but found out today that the radio doesn't have a little blue remote wire so I have to run one. And something is funny with the amp, but dad is looking into it. Friggin electrics

27-28psi is super nice. Still running slightly rich and due to MAT only like 10° of timing. But if one thing, it should be safe. I guess the intercooler is crap. Maybe I'll buy a treadstone with the money from the cats off the A6...

Just for other people's info, make sure the baud rate is high enough on your serial connection. VEMS kept disconnecting at about 5k. Upped the baud rate and fixed. That was annoying.

My injector DC is happy happy under 80% now. I'm cool with that. It'd probably be at about 75 or under if it was a bit more lean.

Lastly, I need to tighten my stock WG spring. I think it's hurting spool a bit and making the boost curve oscillate quite a bit wit the n75 DC up around 50%. It's not noticeable but in VEMS and to the ear.

Vids soon!

Not much to report. Easter takes up a whole weekend apparently. Couldn't tighten the WG screw so I swapped caps with one that moved freely... But didn't drive the car yet lol. Gonna start with two turns and see what happens.

In other news there's a guy with an 08 z06 just up the street that's putting down 975rwhp. Totally stock looking and dirty. Normal+alcohol injection. No drivetrain mods other than clutch, obviously. WTF

I finally picked up an amp for my sub. Holy crap what a difference. Bass is wonderful. The stereo sounded decent but had zero bass. I've never has a sub in a car before. I set it up so that with the sub output on its lowest settings it is just noticeably nice and full sounding, but if I turn it up it's party time. It was a heck of a lot easier than redoing the whole stereo, and cheaper too. Maybe someday down the road I'll update everything but for now I'm super happy.

I still haven't driven and setup the WG spring yet. Tomorrow maybe...

A decent sub makes all the difference in the world. Not for huge boom, but to really fill out and balance the sound. But then again, rattling license plates is kinda funny too... ;)

How are you connecting to VEMS, wired or BT? I've been using 19200 with BT and no probs. When wired, I think I was transferring at 115200. Why so low of a baudrate?

I had 2 kickers 10" cvrs in the 4000 with a 2000w (1000 rms) and it sucked. Damn fuel tank was in the way. They are going into the v8 possibly tomorrow

Always nice to have a balanced stereo for those classical and opera impulses

Buddy of mine made a little over 1000whp recently on a z06 with nitrous. Failed fuel solenoid took out a piston on the 1st track run....its being rebuilt lol
