Transmission is just about ready to come out. Just the procon cables and the two transmission mounts.
You guys have any tricks for the cables? Should I just cut them?
A few pics:

My friend recently just cut them, but he is in a rush and wanted to get it done as quickly as possible.
I don't think you need to take the cable itself out, what I saw when helping him was that they are almost wrapped around the top of the transmission like a seatbelt. You need to loosen the cables to relieve the tension.
Or... I'm completely wrong

Interested in seeing how you get it done

Thanks man! Was a spur of the moment thing last year before H2O. Didn't come out too bad.

Thanks Ben. Also responded to your PM.
Anyone know the cheapest place to get the wastegate to downpipe gaskets? Audi part number is 857253115 but the dealer want something like $60 each. Get real.

Yeah they're super expensive. Just get some generic exhaust gasket and cut it to shape.

Solid idea smarty pants.

Wasn't sure if there were some cheap aftermarket replacement.

HAHA that's what mine is like now. I had made a gasket but it burnt out, so now I am running without. (I did spray a bit of copper-coat on each surface just for good measure though)

You know, I was thinking that when it took me an hour to remove the downpipe!

http://catalog.remflex.com/COLLECTOR_CO ... s16511.htmThis stuff is awesome. Used on lots of hot rods, none on my car yet but it is the best exhaust gasket material I've found.
Nice job on the trans, I hope this 01E holds up better than the others you've had.

I'm really looking forward to hearing your impressions of the 01e. Do you have snow still?

I use copper stuff on all gaskets rather than actual gaskets. Works like a charm as long as the surfaces are true.

Thanks for the link. I think I will try and pull the gaskets off my spare long block if not I may end up at the dealer sucking it up, lol. Luckily they discount my purchases for being such a good customer.
I hope so too! I have high hopes.

I'm pretty excited to see how well it does myself. I slightly concerned with the lenght of 2nd gear, but we'll see. No snow really left here however there's noise about an approaching storm

Oh fo sho.
Gearing makes such a huge difference (and weight). I was able to break traction in first and second on dry pavement in the 4k with who knows how much power. In dad's car that was only happening in the wet, and even then a struggle. With ~600hp. A full 2500+rpm WOT rip in 2nd is just glorious.
Jelly.
Actually, we've got a spare (and two in cars) 01E at the shop...

well that's pretty much inevitable, unless you slam it into second which these transmissions obviously don't like. But that's what ALS/no-lift is for

I'll be testing the 1-2 hard shifts without a doubt. As you guys know, I enjoy launching the car often.
