I've never used it myself, but I understand naval jelly is effective at cleaning aluminum nicely.

OK so you've got 870cc injectors...soooo my map wont work for you right out of the box. Also my car has this really strange place around 3k where it needs a shit ton of fuel for some reason. Not sure if your car will do the same. Mine only got that after switching turbo and manifolds. Anyway, Marc will get you setup with a decent little base map. If you want, you can just run everything I'm running right now and just adjust your main req fuel number such that your car idles appropriately on my map. If you get that to happen, then you should be ready to go out and take some low boost runs while watching the AFR. I'm sure it will be relatively safe that way and then you can add or take away fuel as needed.
I'd be more than happy to talk it over on the phone and or take a look at your logs and make adjustments as necessary if you'd like.

Haha, glad it's easy then. VEMS should be here tomorrow! W00t!
I plan on just tuning it from scratch. No offence towards you but although the same engine there are/could be quite a few variables that I just don't want to risk. I was just going to browse through your file to get accustomed to VEMSTune and maybe the accel enrichments but I really do appreciate your offer! I'll be sure to post logs/videos/dyno and whatnot up here as they come.
I've tuned quite a few MegaSquirted cars in the past and am not a newb to tuning but I am certainly no pro. I'll start start real conservative with the timing, maybe even lock the whole ignition map at 10 degrees and tune the fuel. 11.5-11.9 under boost is usually what I shoot for. Then start throwing some timing in there. Hows your car idle?
No offense taken, just thought I'd offer. So what exactly do you want to see then?
Anyway, I don't know about locking the timing down...doesn't make much sense to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't holding timing static be completely pointless as far as how much fuel you will require when you change the timing? If you lock it at 10 degrees, the car is going to feel like shit in the higher RPMs and such. Where you might need 25+ degrees of timing, you'd really be slowing yourself down.
My car idles awesomely...like stock. Sometimes it gets a little chunky, but thats because I have it very lean.
You're right about the fuel changing with the timing, but it only changes a bit. In the past when starting from scratch I will lock the timing somewhere around 10-12 degrees and rough tune the fuel. I'll then throw in some safe timing under boost (especially where the torque spike is) and slowly add more in towards redline. Under cruise or anything below 100kpa I'll put it somewhere 30deg +. After I've added in some timing I'll then go back and re-adjust the fuel map to make up for the slight changes from adding in the timing.

Posted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:50 amThere was just an unfortunate series of mix-ups with the EMS systems but between Marc and I we got everything all sorted out. Had the car out last night and did some rough tuning but it's misfiring pretty bad and sounding like a subaru, haha. Picking up a new set of BKR7E's tonight and will try another set of wires if needed when I'm out of work.
Quick vid (you can hear the misfire, but also the glorious 30r): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBkmDRKXr6k

you should just email Marc a few data logs and have him make the changes, I hear people have well, best results that way![]()

before I forget to remind you, in the shuffle of changing firmware and stuff while we were resolving the ignition mixup, you'll want to check your wideband calibrations. under base setup->ecu calibrations, your wideband o2 calibration constant should be 175, pump0 should be 101, and nernst DC target should be 134. just double check those settings.

Should I flash back to the newer firmware that was originally loaded on my ECU first? I'll be sure to do that! Will I have to do the free air calibration again as well?
Re: AMD's 91 200q Project
Posted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:08 amdefinitely free air it again. Its good to know your wideband is at least as accurate as it can be.
btw, what plug wires and what coils are you running? If you are running LS2-type coils and need to see if the plug wires are the culprit, you can use your stock wires that used to go to the dizzy.

I'll def free air calibrate it again and I have two sets of wires (3B and 7a's) that I'll try swapping around. I am running the LS2 coils.
Thanks for the tips!
Re: AMD's 91 200q Project
Posted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:21 amah OK. I'm running my stock wires right now as well, so if it misfires on both sets of yours, I'd definitely rule those out. Plugs it is I suppose. I've had OK luck with BKR7e's on this engine. If that doesn't work, have Marc send you some FR5DTC's. Those are the benchmark for misfire testing in my opinion. I've done PLENTY of it unfortunately.
BTW, I just got a chance to look at the vid...looks like you aren't even in much boost when its misfiring?

It's misfiring at idle even.
Re: AMD's 91 200q Project
Posted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:32 amWell then...that is pretty bad. Very curious to know what its causing that. If its misfiring at idle, sounds like you've got a cylinder down completely for one reason or another. Have you pulled the plug boots up while its running to see if one isn't getting spark?
