Slight update, I have been thinking about this car, does that count for anything?

I have been battling with clutchnet, hoping to get my money back via a bank chargeback. I think I am going to ditch the solid 80 flywheel in favor of a dual mass b5 1.8t flywheel and spec or southbend clutch. I think dual mass and diesel might be a good combo.

I am selling my motorcycle at a pretty ridiculous profit, paying off some debt and will be able to get back into this bitch again. I WILL NOT do another winter on the mountain without a quattro.

I am also trying to justify getting a euro tdi 6 speed 01e...that would make this car perfect...hard to spend that money, but i think its crucial to getting the most out of the TDI engine.

Why is that? I have a spec stage3, and pretty much every one I know is also running spec clutches. Not on just Audi's either.

i've heard horror stories about pretty much every clutch manufacturer. Ive used specs on several cars, reasonably happy with them, but not super pleased.

I've had good luck with Spec up until recently. In the last couple months I've been getting an occasional grinding noise when letting out the clutch from a stop. Almost sounds like gears grinding. Also if I let it out slowly on a shift sometimes. Only occasional. Maybe every other day.

Probably not a spec thing. Probably related to my crazy high rpm launch control clutch slips. Weird how that works.

Dana I wouldn't use a dual mass, they explode in stock mkiv tdi's all the time. I got a single mass for 180 shipped I think, I'm running a southbend stage 5, but only because I had it lying around, I liked my spec when the Tdi was in the mkii...
Here's the flywheel I got http://www.ebay.com/itm/140982632718
I'm having the entire rotating assembly balanced so I figured it would be fine.

Old and grumpy.

not really, still fighting to get my money back from clutchnet. I did finish a couple other projects that were ahead of it in line. If all goes well this week, I am going to pull the head apart and clean it up. Not exciting I know, but winter is approaching and for the love of god, I don't want to be quattroless for a 3rd winter in a row.

I know that feeling! I went 2 years without one. Now that I have to drop the trans on my 80 again, Im just hoping the input shaft bearing and throw out bearing will solve the grinding noises. If not, I guess I will be looking for another trans, again.

Keep at it, I hope to see the black smoke fly soon!

i cleaned my shop and sat in the 90 today and made turbo noises.

Does that count for progress?

Don't feel bad my block is still at the machine shop, dropped it off in April. Plus I cleaned up my head yesterday and found this.

bummer man! is that the motor that was in your mk2 all modded up?

sometimes cracks are ok if they are small, is this a common tdi thing?

It was, it happens sometimes. I had an injector leaking compression last year gave it a turn and it stopped. I have a couple of people that may be able to help me out. With all the $ I'm spending I don't want to risk it. Probably build another head and fix this one later on. They cracked in the last 5k after I did the head gasket. Weird...hope you resolve the clutch problem.

Look, I done did something. I didn't want to pull the motor apart, but I could not accept the amount of veggie oil fossils that were in the intake ports and on the back of the valves. The ports are so little and goofy on the TDI that I had to pull the valves to get them properly clean, so here it is.

What did you use to clean the valves? They came out great!

soaked the valves in purple power for a week, then chipped off the big stuff very carefully, then taped up the stems, put them in a drill and held them tightly with a fine scotch brite pad soacked in purple power and spun until clean.

After fighting since April to get my money back from Clutchnet, I finally got my chargeback credit from the bank this morning and promptly ordered a Spec stage 2+. So very excited to have the missing link to get this engine in its home hopefully permanently!!!!
